Sexuality and Translation: Rewriting Identities and Desires
2018
Abstract This chapter offers a panorama of research on sexuality and translation, a promising field of research still underexamined. Two directions are identified: the translation of sexuality and the sexualization of translation. The cooperation between disciplines has generated a number of new areas of study, including erotic/pornographic translation, (self)censorship in translation, and gay/queer translation. These promising lines of inquiry are briefly presented, and a few examples of analyses are added. Though much more work is needed, the critical alliance of translation and sexuality seems to be offering valuable insights into the ideological construction of a given society, particul…
Translating Italy. Notes on Irish Poets Reading Italian Poetry.
2005
Translating Italy.Notes on Irish Poets Reading Italian Poetry During the last few years, literary translation has become a relevant part of some Irish writers’ activity. Such poets as Seamus Heaney, Derek Mahon, Paul Muldoon, Eamon Grennan, Desmond O’Grady, among others, sometimes seemed to have been more concerned about translating than about writing. Translation has offered itself as an occasion for literary experimentation, rewriting as well as for learning and discussing about other worlds. A sociocultural perspective – entailing the notion of ‘cultural identity’ – has here been applied to a linguistic analysis of such texts in translation
Rate of growth of frequently hypercyclic functions
2010
AbstractWe study the rate of growth of entire functions that are frequently hypercyclic for the differentiation operator or the translation operator. Moreover, we prove the existence of frequently hypercyclic harmonic functions for the translation operator and we study the rate of growth of harmonic functions that are frequently hypercyclic for partial differentiation operators.

JAMES JOYCE’S A PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MAN. A CORPUS-STYLISTIC ANALYSIS OF ITS ITALIAN TRANSLATIONS AND IMPLICATIONS FOR EFL TEACHING
2016
Brian Friel’s concern about the role and the value of the act of translation certainly reminds the reader of James Joyce’s famous words on the cultural – and most of all linguistic – differences between the protagonist of his book and the English headmaster of the school he works at. The present contribution aims at offering a comparative analysis of some of the Italian translations of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man through a corpus-based approach. Corpora can be used in a classroom of EFL or of Translation Studies, to draw students’ attention towards the various translation strategies and the linguistic information useful in translation and learning process. For such reasons, I in…
Arnold Bennett, Giovanni Verga, David Herbert Lawrence. Transitional realism, translation and dialect
2012
This work investigates the relationship between translation, tran- sition and realism in connection with the development of di- alectal forms, the concept of city and travel images in late-nine- teenth-century literary production in Europe, with particular em- phasis on French, English and Italian realist literature. The process of transiting, which entails a mechanism of transformation resulting in innovation and change, is common in translation, realist literature, travel, and dialect as a linguistic break with stan- dard language. If translation is a system of transferring meaning from one set of language signs into another set of language signs, realism in literature is par excellence t…

Translation or Transcreation? Discourses, Texts and Visuals
2018
Translation or Transcreation? Discourses, Texts and Visuals presents us with an apparent dilemma: is translation primarily a form of transfer or a form of creation? This dilemma harks back to a series of questions about the nature of creativity which are at the heart of Western philosophy and aesthetics: what distinguishes an original from a reproduction? What is original in every “translation” and what has already been translated in every “original”? While these questions have been theoretically debated in the past fifty years mainly in the contexts of French and American deconstruction, contemporary communication practices bring them back on the table with renewed urgency. The global flow…
How to blend language and ICT in the didactics of scientific translation.
2016
Este trabajo propone una aproximación desde la lingüística aplicada junto con la traducción ayudada por ordenador a la traducción de la ciencia y la tecnología. A partir de ahí hace una propuesta didáctica. New information and communication technologies (ICT) have burst into all spheres of our lives, modifying them in ways inconceivable barely 10 years ago. Generally speaking, these modifications have enhanced interaction processes (telecommunications), work and human production (task automation). The field of professional translation has been particularly affected by this technological revolution and has led to new research, professional and didactic paradigms, known as Automatic Translati…
