Surface Defects as a Tool to Solubilize and Functionalize WS 2 Nanotubes

2017

Layered transition metal dichalcogenides contain a number of crystal defects which significantly change their properties may be beneficial or detrimental for a specific application. We have prepared defect-rich multiwalled WS2 nanotubes by reductive sulfidization of W18O49 nanowires that were obtained solvothermally from tungsten chloride in different alcohols. The synthesis of the W18O49 nanowires was monitored and their morphological characteristics (e. g. length, rigidity and aspect ratio) are described in detail. The effect of morphology of the nanowires on the synthesis of WS2 nanotubes was investigated in order to obtain WS2 nanotubes that are highly solvent dispersible. Dispersions o…

From Undetectable Equals Untransmittable (U=U) to Breastfeeding: Is the Jump Short?

2022

Background: Vertical transmission of HIV infection may occur during pregnancy, at childbirth or through breastfeeding. Recommendations on the safety of breastfeeding of HIV-infected women on effective antiretroviral treatment are not univocal among international guidelines (WHO 2010, EACS 2017, DHHS 2017), leaving space for variability at the patient’s level. Methods: We collected clinical, laboratory and outcome data from 13 HIV-infected pregnant women who, between March 2017 and June 2021, elected to breastfeed their children against specific medical advice. All mothers were on antiretroviral therapy with darunavir or raltegravir plus emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil and remained HIV-RN…

The fifteenth-century Catalan translation of the French "Danse macabre": A critical edition and English translation, from manuscript Miscel·lània 26,…

2015

The present article focuses on ff. cxlr-cviiir of the manuscript Miscel?lània 26, Arxiu de la Corona d’Aragó, Barcelona, which contain the only extant version of the fifteenth-century Catalan translation of the French Danse macabre. The article contains a philological study of this section of the manuscript, with particular attention to the relationship between the Catalan version of the Danse macabre and its French sources: this study serves as an introduction to a new critical edition of the Catalan translation proposed in the second part of the article. The critical text consists of a parallel edition of the Catalan version and manuscript lat. 14904, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Par…

Immunoelectron microscopy labeling for the identification of oligodendrocytes and their precursor cells

2021

A new efficient, highly dispersed, Pd nanoparticulate silica supported catalyst synthesized from an organometallic precursor. Study of the homogeneou…

2018

[EN] A new Pd(0) catalyst supported on silica UVM-7 has been synthesized from the organometallic [Pd-2(mu-(C6H4) Pp(2))(2)(CH3CN)(4)](BF4)(2) precursor, characterized by the high dispersion, activity, and small size of the palladium nanoclusters fixed on the silica surface. The catalyst was tested for the Suzuki-Miyaura (SM) reaction of different 4-substitutedphenyl halides with phenylboronic acid. The kinetic study concurs with most of the catalytic action was carried out by Pd species originated by the partial solubilization of Pd immobilized on mesoporous silica. The Schmidt's analysis of differential selectivity (SADS) in several competitive SM reactions, together the STEM-HAADF and HRT…

Stretched fibre based dispersion compensating module for ultra high-speed telecommunication systems

2008

International audience; In this work, the potential efficiency of a low-loss, tunable second-and third-order dispersion compensating module based on a stretched optical fibre for ultra high-speed telecommunication systems is analysed. Experimental results at a repetition rate of 640 GHz show that precise dispersion compensation could be achieved in the range of +0.038 ps/nm by means of an 11.3 cm maximum stretching of a 48 m long dispersion compensating.

Practical design rules for single-channel ultra high-speed dense dispersion management telecommunication systems

2009

International audience; In this work, we establish some efficient and practical design rules for the implementation of single-channel ultra-high speed (>160-Gbit/s) telecommunication systems based on dense dispersion management. Moreover, we analyze some of actual implementation issues such as slope compensation scenario, junction losses, polarization mode dispersion and chromatic dispersion fluctuations.

Ultrasonic guided wave propagation in long bones with varying cortical thickness

2009

The propagation of ultrasonic guided wave (GW) in the long bone is very sensitive to the bones' shapes, properties and cortical thicknesses (CTh). Most of the previous studies on the GW propagation in long bones mainly focused on the bones with uniform CTh. However, it is necessary to understand the impacts of CTh variation, such as mode conversion. Therefore, an adequate analysis on GW propagating in long bones with varying CTh is essential for the precise calibration of the quantitative measurement of it. The aim of this study is to use a modified boundary element method (BEM) to analyze the GW propagation characteristics in long bones with varying CTh. Numerical analysis implemented by t…

Effect of Short-Term Temperature Change on Cercarial Release by Rhipidocotyle fennica (Trematoda, Bucephalidae) from the Freshwater Bivalve Host, Ano…

2015

Cercarial release from the first intermediate host is an important stage in the transmission of trematode parasites. Besides long-term (seasonal) temperature fluctuations, short-term temperature changes can also influence cercarial emergence. We tested the response of the bucephalid trematode, Rhipidocotyle fennica (R. fennica), acclimatized to 17 °C, to an abrupt temperature change. As the natural cercarial shedding by this parasite takes place annually during the warmest season, we expected a positive effect of temperature increase. Monitoring during one hour after the transfer from 17 °C to 20 °C revealed a significant increase in R. fennica cercarial release compared to the preceding on…

Amorphous calcium carbonate in the shells of adult Unionoida

2011

Shells of adult individuals from two different bivalve families, Hyriopsis cumingii and Diplodon chilensis patagonicus, were studied by Micro-Raman spectroscopy and Focussed Ion Beam-assisted TEM. The shells contain amorphous calcium carbonate in a zone at the interface between the periostracum and the prismatic layer. In this area, the initial prism structures protrude from the inner periostracum layer and it is demonstrated that these structures systematically consist of highly disordered and amorphous calcium carbonate. Within this zone, ordered and disordered areas are intermingled discounting the existence of a crystallization front and favouring models of domainal crystallization proc…
