The stimulation of arginine transport by TNFα in human endothelial cells depends on NF-κB activation
2004
In human saphenous vein endothelial cells (HSVECs), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha) and bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), but neither interferon gamma (IFNgamma) nor interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta), stimulate arginine transport. The effects of TNFalpha and LPS are due solely to the enhancement of system y+ activity, whereas system y+L is substantially unaffected. TNFalpha causes an increased expression of SLC7A2/CAT-2B gene while SLC7A1/CAT-1 expression is not altered by the cytokine. The suppression of PKC-dependent transduction pathways, obtained with the inhibitor chelerytrhine, the inhibitor peptide of PKCzeta isoform, or chronic exposure to phorbol esters, does not prevent TNFalp…
A Feasibility Analysis For Wig’s As A Civil Transport System In The Mediterranean Sea
2008
Expression of solute carrier 7A4 (SLC7A4) in the plasma membrane is not sufficient to mediate amino acid transport activity.
2002
Member 4 of human solute carrier family 7 (SLC7A4) exhibits significant sequence homology with the SLC7 subfamily of human cationic amino acid transporters (hCATs) [Sperandeo, Borsani, Incerti, Zollo, Rossi, Zuffardi, Castaldo, Taglialatela, Andria and Sebastio (1998) Genomics 49, 230–236]. It is therefore often referred to as hCAT-4 even though no convincing transport activity has been shown for this protein. We expressed SLC7A4 in Xenopus laevis oocytes, but could not detect any transport activity for cationic, neutral or anionic amino acids or for the polyamine putrescine. In addition, human glioblastoma cells stably overexpressing a fusion protein between SLC7A4 and the enhanced green f…
Status and development of the MARA low-energy branch
2018
The MARA Low-Energy Branch is under development at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyvaskylä. The facility will be employed for laser ionisation and spectroscopy studies and for mass measurements of nuclei close to the proton drip line. This article presents an updated status of the ongoing development of the different parts of this facility, including the buffer gas cell, the ion transport system, the laser system and the detector stations. peerReviewed
Transporter-mediated replacement of extracellular glutamate for GABA in the developing murine neocortex
2013
During early development, cortical neurons migrate from their places of origin to their final destinations where they differentiate and establish synaptic connections. During corticogenesis, radially migrating cells move from deeper zone to the marginal zone, but they do not invade the latter. This "stop" function of the marginal zone is mediated by a number of factors, including glutamate and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), two main neurotransmitters in the central nervous system. In the marginal zone, GABA has been shown to be released via GABA transporters (GAT)-2/3, whereas glutamate transporters (EAATs) operate in the uptake mode. In this study, GABAergic postsynaptic currents (GPSCs) were…
Management of intelligent transport systems applied to sustainable development of motor vehicle transports
2021
The scientific paper presents a concrete research carried out by the authors in order to implement technical concepts, so that those interested in this field can learn about a certain way of exposing the problems with regard to the sustainable development of road transport. The use of computer means in the field of motor vehicle transport have taken on a special magnitude in recent times, and the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), also known as telematics systems used in the field of transport, comprise a wide range of tools and services deriving from ITS technologies, by using communications and information technology. Below we present a technical and managerial study with engineering nu…
Innovative transport services in areas with weak and peculiar public transport demand
2008
A growing demand for mobility and the deficiencies in the transport system have transformed urban centres in “unliveable” places. A prevalent use of private cars produces high levels of pollution, casualties and road congestion. The promotion of public transport is considered an effective strategy to make mobility more sustainable for people. When a public transport system serves areas with a weak transportation demand, as it happens in territories with dispersed settlements (urban outskirts, rural areas, mountains, …), the resort to unconventional forms of public transport, such as dial and ride bus services, is necessary.
