Jet transverse fragmentation momentum from h–h correlations in pp and p–Pb collisions

QCD color coherence phenomena, like angular ordering, can be studied by looking at jet fragmentation. As the jet is fragmenting, it is expected to go through two different phases. First, there is QCD branching that is calculable in perturbative QCD. Next, the produced partons hadronize in a non-perturbative way later in a hadronization process. The jet fragmentation can be studied using the method of two particle correlations. A useful observable is the jet transverse fragmentation momentum $j_{\mathrm{T}}$, which describes the angular width of the jet. Low-pT pion enhancement from partial thermalization in nuclear collisions

Abstract We attribute the enhancement of pions measured at low transverse momenta and central rapidities in 200 A GeV nucleus-nucleus collisions to the partial thermal equilibration of a superdense pion fluid. Transport theory calculations are compared to recent S+S and O+Au data, and predictions are made for Pb+Pb.

Cavity solitons in optical systems have been studied for two decades in a large variety of optical systems. In principle, bidirectional lasers can emit only unidirectionally in steady state, as the two-mode solution (non null steady state in the two possible emission directions) is an unstable solution (winner-takes-all competition prevents the bidirectional cw emission). But for a wide aperture cavity this is not necessarily true as, in different regions of the transverse (with respect to the propagation axis) direction, emission in different propagation directions could occur if the fronts separating these domains are stable. Background To determine the mechanical properties of the NiTi Memoria® Leaf Spring Activated Expander (NiTi MLSAE) in two forms, unaltered (unbent) and altered (bent) to mimic clinical use. Material and Methods This in-vitro pilot study was conducted using eight NiTi MLSAE expanders (American Tooth Industries, Oxnard, California) representing four force magnitudes: 10mm 500g, 10mm 900g, 6mm 450g and 6mm 900g models. Search for diphoton events with large missing transverse energy in 7 TeV proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector.

A search for diphoton events with large missing transverse energy is presented. The data were collected with the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 3.1 pb−1. No excess of such events is observed above the standard model background prediction. In the context of a specific model with one universal extra dimension with compactification radius R and gravity-induced decays, values of 1/R<729 GeV are excluded at 95% C. L., providing the most sensitive limit on this model to date.

Measurements of the pseudorapidity dependence of the total transverse energy in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with ATLAS

This paper describes measurements of the sum of the transverse energy of particles as a function of particle pseudorapidity, η, in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy, √s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are performed in the region |η| < 4.8 for two event classes: those requiring the presence of particles with a low transverse momentum and those requiring particles with a significant transverse momentum. In the second dataset measurements are made in the region transverse to the hard scatter. Measurement of the p(e,e′π+)n reaction close to threshold and at low Q2

The cross section of the $p(e,e'\pi^+)n$ reaction has been measured for five kinematic settings at an invariant mass of $W = 1094$ MeV and for a four-momentum transfer of $Q^2 = 0.078$ (GeV/$c$)$^2$. The measurement has been performed at MAMI using a new short-orbit spectrometer (SOS) of the A1 collaboration, intended for detection of low-energy pions. The transverse and longitudinal cross section terms were separated using the Rosenbluth method and the transverse-longitudinal interference term has been determined from the left-right asymmetry. The experimental cross section terms are compared with the calculations of three models: DMT2001, MAID2007 and $\chi$MAID. The results show that we …
Inclusive B-meson production at small p_T in the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme

We calculate the cross section for the inclusive production of B mesons in pp and ppbar collisions at next-to-leading order in the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme and show that a suitable choice of factorization scales leads to a smooth transition to the fixed-flavor-number scheme. Our numerical results are in good agreement with data from the Tevatron and LHC experiments at small and at large transverse momenta.
