Search for the Rare Leptonic Decay B+→μ+νμ

2004

A search for the rare leptonic decay with data collected at the resonance by the BABAR experiment was carried out. The decay rate was sensitive to the product of the Cabibbo Kobayashi Maskawa matrix element (Vub and the B decay constant fb, which was propotional to the wave function for zero separation between the quarks. The data used in the analysis was collectd with BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring and the sample consisted of an integrity luminosity of 81.4 fb-1. The systematic uncertainty in the signal efficiency was evaluated which included the muon candidate selection and the reconstruction efficiency of the companion B.

Theoretical determination of the geometric and electronic structures of oligorylenes and poli(peri‐naphthalene)

1992

We present a theoretical investigation of the electronic structure of oligorylenes (from perylene to heptarylene, including also the naphthalene molecule) and their corresponding polymer poly(peri‐naphthalene) (PPN) using the nonempirical valence effective (VEH) method. The geometry of the unit cell used to generate the polymer is extrapolated from the PM3‐optimized molecular geometries of the longest oligorylenes. That geometry shows some bond alternation along the perimeter carbon chains and a bond length of ≊1.46 Å is calculated for the peri bonds connecting the naphthalene units. The VEH one‐electron energy level distributions calculated for oligorylenes are used to interpret the experi…

Metalloporphyrins with metalmetal σ-bonds. Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and electrochemistry of (P)MRe(CO)5 where P is the dianion of …

1991

Abstract The synthesis, physicochemical properties, and electrochemistry of a new series of metal metal σ-bonded metalloporphyrins are reported. The investigated compounds are represented as (P)MRe(CO)5 where P is the dianion of octaethylporphyrin (OEP) or tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) and M = Al, Ga, In, or Tl. These compounds provide the first examples of Al and Ga metalloporphyrins with covalent metalmetal bonds as well as give the first series of compounds in which the same metalate anion is covalently bonded to four different group 13 metalloporphyrins. Each synthesized complex was characterized by 1H NMR, IR, and UV-visible spectroscopy as well as by electrochemistry. Graham Δσ and Δπ …

Study of voltage decrease in organic light emitting diodes during the initial stage of lifetime

2016

Abstract We report the results of lifetime DC testing at constant current of not-encapsulated organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on Tris (8 idroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq3) as emitting material. In particular, a voltage decrease during the initial stage of the lifetime test is observed. The cause of this behavior is also discussed, mainly linked to initial Joule self-heating of the device, rising its temperature above room temperature until thermal equilibrium is reached at steady state.

Correlation, hierarchies, and networks in financial markets

2010

We discuss some methods to quantitatively investigate the properties of correlation matrices. Correlation matrices play an important role in portfolio optimization and in several other quantitative descriptions of asset price dynamics in financial markets. Specifically, we discuss how to define and obtain hierarchical trees, correlation based trees and networks from a correlation matrix. The hierarchical clustering and other procedures performed on the correlation matrix to detect statistically reliable aspects of the correlation matrix are seen as filtering procedures of the correlation matrix. We also discuss a method to associate a hierarchically nested factor model to a hierarchical tre…

Surgical time for graft preparation using different suture techniques

2016

Background: The purpose of the present study was to compare the operative time for graft prepa- ration using different techniques for graft sutur- ing. Material and methods: Flexor profundus tendons were harvested from fresh pig hind-leg trotters. Three different suture techniques were investigat- ed: the Krackow stitch (K), the Whipstitch (W), and the Modified Finger-Trap suture (MFT). Ten- dons were sutured starting at 10 mm from the dis- tal free end of the tendon. The suture configura- tions of the Krackow stitch and Whipstitch were completed with five suture throws. According to the MFT technique, the suture was wrapped five times around the tendon over a distance of 30 mm. The time re…

Rôle de l’hypotonie dans la réponse à la chimiothérapie intra-péritonéale : étude des effets sur les cellules cancéreuses et la mort immunogène indui…

2018

IntraPeritoneal Chemotherapy (IPEC) is commonly used to treat colorectal cancer metastases. However there is no standardized protocol. The aim of this work was to model this chemotherapy in vitro and to understand the role of hypotonic conditions in this model and its impact on cell death. We determined that the optimal treatment parameters on HCT116 human colon cancer cells, were an exposure of the cells for 30 minutes to 400μM of oxaliplatin under hypotonic conditions (G2.5%) at 37 °C. These results have been validated on various human and murine colic cancer cell lines. We have also shown that these treatment conditions are also able to increase the cytotoxicity of other platinum derivativ…

Ozone therapy in idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome. Biochemical, neurophysiological and clinical aspects

2018

Purpose.
Idiopathic Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy; however few and only retrospective studies have been found in search engines about Ozone Therapy.
The aim of this paper was to evaluate clinical and neurophysiological outcome following Ozone Therapy in CTS.
We focused the attention on the evidences concerning the role of Subsynovial Connective Tissue (SSCT) in the pathogenesis of CTS and the ozone pre-conditioning effects linked to pain and inflammatory pathways and to fibrosis induced by Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury.

 Materials and methods.
Thirty-five patients, aged between 21 and 80, were stratified clinically b…

Nutraceutical Value of Pantelleria Capers (Capparis spinosa L.)

2019

Abstract: Unopened flower buds of Capparis spinosa L. (capers), generally used in the Mediterranean area as food flavoring, are known to be a good source of bioactive compounds. The aim of this work was to evaluate the nutraceutical value of salt-fermented capers collected from different areas of Pantelleria Island (Italy), testing their methylglyoxal and glyoxal trapping capacity and antioxidant activity by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH), [2,2-azinobis(3-ethylben- zothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)] diammonium salt (ABTS), and oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assays. Hydrophilic extracts were also characterized by high-performance liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization/ma…

Populācijas biomarķieru noteikšana notekūdeņos ar nano-plūsmas šķidrumu hromatogrāfiju- masspektrometriju

2022
