Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is now widely used in microbiology to explore genome evolution and the structure of pathogen outbreaks. Bioinformatics pipelines readily detect single-nucleotide polymorphisms or short indels. However, bacterial genomes also evolve through the action of small transposable elements called insertion sequences (ISs), which are difficult to detect due to their short length and multiple repetitions throughout the genome. In the present work, we investigated the phylogenetic position and phenotypic characteristics of eight yeast isolates collected from migratory birds on the island of Ustica, Italy. A phylogenetic analysis based on the D1/D2 region of the large-subunit rRNA gene showed that all isolates clustered as a single separate lineage within the Wickerhamomyces clade. They exhibited distinct morphological and physiological characteristics and were clearly separated from their closest relatives, Wickerhamomyces lynferdii, Wickerhamomyces anomalus and Wickerhamomyces subpelliculosus, in blastn searches. Foraging sites of individual willow tits, Parus montanus, and crested tits, P. cristatus, on spruce were studied in a winter when the risk of predation from pygmy owls, Glaucidium passerinum, was high and in a winter when it was low. Mixed-species flocks consisted of two crested tits (a pair) and three to six willow tits. The risk of predation from owls is likely to be highest on the most exterior tree parts. Female crested tits foraged further out on the branches than other individuals when predation risk was low, but foraged in the safer sites close to the tree trunk when the risk was high. Tässä pro gradu -työssä tarkastellaan YAD Youth Against Drugs ry:n luomaa matalan kynnyksen vapaaehtoistyön mallia. Tämän Street Teamiksi nimetyn mallin tavoitteena on, että kuka tahansa missä päin tahansa Suomea pystyisi tekemään huumekriittistä vapaaehtoistyötä juuri silloin kun haluaa ja ehtii. Street Teamissä keskiössä on vertaisvaikuttaminen ja sosiaalisen median hyödyntäminen siinä. Tämä pro gradu on muodoltaan työnäyte. Lähtökohtana on ollut RAY:n rahoittama kolmivuotinen projekti. In this context, we propose in this paper a new perspective of image segmentation by applying two efficient community detection algorithms. By considering regions as communities, these methods can give an over-segmented image that has many small regions. Extending CSG with projections: Towards formally certified geometric modeling

We extend traditional Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) trees to support the projection operator. Existing algorithms in the literature prove various topological properties of CSG sets. Our extension readily allows these algorithms to work on a greater variety of sets, in particular parametric sets, which are extensively used in CAD/CAM systems. Constructive Solid Geometry allows for algebraic representation which makes it easy for certification tools to apply.
