Ekspansja ludyczności w kulturze współczesnej
2020
The process of the carnivalization of urban space is aided by contemporary media, which, in popularizing myriad events, amplifies community activities ranging from festivals to mass public shows connected with historical events. Contemporary fascination with such phenomena finds its sources in ritualized models of para- theatrical activity rooted in the traditions of peasant culture, as well as in forms of mass folk protest. As a result, we can observe the rapidly-developing ability of city-dwellers to occupy public space while creating emotional communities that extend into virtual, and other, realms, with the aim of realizing political goals.
Reakcia dubov voči klimatickým extrémom v prechodnej zóne dubových a bukových lesov
2021
Forest management might be threatened by declining health status of oaks in the transition zone between oak and beech forests, where drought is the most limiting factor. The aim of the presented paper is to assess the influence of selected climatic characteristics on the radial growth of oak trees with different stem diameter status in the beech-oak and oak-beech forest altitudinal zones within the forest growth area of Poľana Mt. and Zvolen Basin (Slovakia). Our results show that oaks with less favourable stem diameter position (Weisse’s middle stems) show slower radial growth, have less pronounced climatic precipitation signal and milder response to extreme climatic events. The findings p…
Performing authenticities : cultural forms and their functions in the Reclaim the Streets -protest
2007
In this thesis I study the role of culture in the context of social movements. I argue that the role of concrete cultural forms in protest movements’ action has undergone a rather small interest in the Finnish study of social movements. I examine culture in social movements by looking at the “cultural turn” in social sciences, the rise of “new social movements” and through the theorizing of Pierre Bourdieu, Sarah Thornton and Ron Eyerman and Andrew Jamison. I conceptualize culture as both the concrete cultural praxis (e.g. music, art, dancing) and as a semiotic and cognitive system behind all action. As an empirical case study, I adopt a cultural perspective towards one protest movement, th…
New tree monitoring systems: from Industry 4.0 to Nature 4.0
2019
This is the accepted version of the article "New tree monitoring systems: from Industry 4.0 to Nature 4.0" published as final paper in Annals of Silvicultural Research Volume 43, Issue 2, 2019, Pages 84-88, http://dx.doi.org/10.12899/asr-1847 Abstract - Recently, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies have grown rapidly and represent now a unique opportunity to improve our environmental monitoring capabilities at extremely low costs. IoT is a new system of thinking in which objects, animals or people are equipped with unique identifiers and transfer data to a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. IoT has evolved from the convergence of wirele…
UAS BASED TREE SPECIES IDENTIFICATION USING THE NOVEL FPI BASED HYPERSPECTRAL CAMERAS IN VISIBLE, NIR AND SWIR SPECTRAL RANGES
2016
Abstract. Unmanned airborne systems (UAS) based remote sensing offers flexible tool for environmental monitoring. Novel lightweight Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) based, frame format, hyperspectral imaging in the spectral range from 400 to 1600 nm was used for identifying different species of trees in a forest area. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this was the first research where stereoscopic, hyperspectral VIS, NIR, SWIR data is collected for tree species identification using UAS. The first results of the analysis based on fusion of two FPI-based hyperspectral imagers and RGB camera showed that the novel FPI hyperspectral technology provided accurate geometric, radiometric and sp…
INTEGRATED SURVEYNG WITH MOBILE MAPPING SYSTEM, EGNOS, NTRK AND LASER TECHNOLOGIES IN THE PARK "NINNI CASSARA" IN PALERMO
2018
Abstract. This article summarizes the experience gained between 2012 and 2013 by the department of "Civil Engineering, Environmental, Aerospace and Materials" of University of Palermo on the integrated survey of Ninni Park Cassara Park in Palermo and the subsequent testing of methods, tools and techniques based on current research regarding the acquisition and processing of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) data and laser-scanner. A fruitful time dedicated to the design of the survey has allowed us to become aware of the critical issues that the site presents because of its vast extent and diversity in size and number of the elements of which it is composed. The work has been addres…
Tree species recognition in species rich area using UAV-borne hyperspectral imagery and stereo-photogrammetric point cloud
2017
Abstract. Recognition of tree species and geospatial information of tree species composition is essential for forest management. In this study we test tree species recognition using hyperspectral imagery from VNIR and SWIR camera sensors in combination with 3D photogrammetric canopy surface model based on RGB camera stereo-imagery. An arboretum forest with a high number of tree species was used as a test area. The imagery was acquired from the test area using UAV-borne cameras. Hyperspectral imagery was calibrated for providing a radiometrically corrected reflectance mosaic, which was tested along with the original uncalibrated imagery. Alternative estimators were tested for predicting tree…
Innovative techniques to reduce chilling injuries in mango (Mangifera Indica L.) trees under mediterranean climate
2017
As a tropical tree, mango (Mangifera indica L.) cultivated in Mediterranean climate needs protection against low temperatures. The aim of this work is to study the effect of traditional individual protective canopy protection systems in comparison with innovative typologies designed for this experiment on the physiological response of young mango trees during the cold season. We selected 25 four-year-old mango trees cv ‘Glenn’. Trees were divided into five different groups: not covered trees (NC); trees with windbreak protection using a shading net (SN); trees with windbreak protection using non-woven sheets (WB); fully covered trees using non-woven sheets (FC); fully covered trees with non…
On flora semantics in house names found in Vidzeme: materials contained in the 1826 counting of souls in Vidzeme province
2014
On flora semantics in house names found in Vidzeme: materials contained in the 1826 counting of souls in Vidzeme province The information of the counting of souls containing both house names and names of individuals is an essential aspect of historical onomastics. The first counting of souls in Vidzeme took place in 1782 and coincided with the 4 th analogous census of the provinces of Russia. Subsequently these took place at irregular intervals, the 5 th in 1795, the 6 th in 1811, the 7 th in 1816, the 8 th in 1834, the 9 th in 1850, and the final, 10 th in 1858. The number of house names entered in the 1826 counting of souls in Vidzeme province (guberna) is 14,500, including those of peasa…
