Extracellular calcium-sensing receptor mediates human bronchial epithelial wound repair
2010
The airway epithelium routinely undergoes damage that requires repair to restore epithelial barrier integrity. Cell migration followed by proliferation are necessary steps to achieve epithelial repair. Calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) is implicated in cell migration and proliferation processes. Thus we hypothesized that CaSR mediates lung epithelial wound repair. We detected CaSR expression in human lung and in well-differentiated human bronchial epithelial cells (HBEC). To test the CaSR functionality, HBEC loaded with fura-2 were stimulated with extracellular Ca(2+) ([Ca(2+)](out)) which resulted in a concentration-dependent intracellular Ca(2+) ([Ca(2+)](i)) increase (potency approximately…
Postnatal development of the dopaminergic signaling involved in the modulation of intestinal motility in mice
2015
Background:Since antidopaminergic drugs are pharmacological agents employed in the management of gastrointestinal motor disorders at all ages, we investigated whether the enteric dopaminergic system may undergo developmental changes after birth. Methods:Intestinal mechanical activity was examined in vitro as changes in isometric tension. Results:In 2-d-old (P2) mice, dopamine induced a contractile effect, decreasing in intensity with age, replaced, at the weaning (day 20), by a relaxant response. Both responses were tetrodotoxin (TTX)-insensitive. In P2, dopaminergic contraction was inhibited by D1-like receptor antagonist and mimicked by D1-like receptor agonist. In 90-d-old (P90) mice, the …
Abiotisko un biotisko faktoru ietekme uz epigeisko bezmugurkaulnieku sugu sabiedrībām kaļķainos zāļu purvos Latvijas Piejūras zemienē
2016

Mechanisms underlying the inhibitory effects induced by pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide in mouse ileum
2005
Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the signal transduction mechanisms underlying the inhibitory effect induced by pituitary adenylate cyclase activating peptide (PACAP-27) on the spontaneous contractile activity of longitudinal muscle of mouse ileum. Mechanical activity of ileal segments was recorded isometrically in vitro. PACAP-27 produced apamin-sensitive reduction of the amplitude of the spontaneous contractions. 9-(Tetrahydro-2-furanyl)-9H-purin-6-amine (SQ 22,536), adenylate cyclase inhibitor, or genistein and tyrphostin 25, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, had negligible effects on PACAP-27-induced inhibition. PACAP-27 effects were significantly inhibited by U-73122, phopho…
Ergosterol elicits oxidative burst in tobacco cells via phospholipase A2 and protein kinase C signal pathway
2004
Ergosterol, a typical fungal sterol, induced in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Xanthi) suspension cells the synthesis of reactive oxygen species and alkalization of the external medium that are dependent on the mobilization of calcium from internal stores. We used specific inhibitors to elucidate the signal pathway triggered by ergosterol compared with cryptogein, a proteinaceous elicitor of Phytophthora cryptogea. HerbimycinA and genistein, inhibitors of tyrosine protein kinases, had no effect on the oxidative burst and pH changes induced by bothelicitors.Similarly,H-89,aninhibitorofproteinkinaseA,hadnoeffectontheinductionofthesedefensereactions.However,theresponse to both elicitors was…
