Verifying the effect of distributed generators on voltage profile, power losses and protection system in radial distribution networks

2013

In the recent years the electrical power networks are undergoing rapid restructuring and developing process worldwide. Advancement in technologies and concern about the environmental impacts have led to increase interconnection of renewable energy based distributed generations (DGs) in distribution networks. The DGs have significant impacts on the distribution systems; these impacts may be either positively or negatively depending on the modified interconnected DG distribution network structure. It will be necessary to consider many issues concerning these impacts. In this paper, an investigation of DGs impacts on voltage profile, power losses, and protection system in radial distribution n…

Effect of natural sea salt on physicochemical and textural properties of low sodium durum wheat bread

2015

Today, the dietary salt intake is considerably higher than the recommendations of the EFSA for good health (3-4 g salt/day). Several initiatives have been undertaken for a reduction in salt intake. The traditional use of sodium chioride (NaCI) fulfils various important rheological, technological and sensory properties in manufacturing of baked goods. However, using NaCI in the production of food has been controversially discussed since a high intake of sodium is associated with hypertension (1). Recently, the Reg (EU) 1924/2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods makes it possible to claims on a label 'low sodium/salt', 'very low sodium/salt' and 'sodium free or salt free' for food…

Transient stability simulation of a fixed speed wind turbine by Matlab/Simulink

2007

This paper describes the dynamic behavior of a typical fixed speed wind turbine connected to the grid; the model is developed in the simulation tool Matlab/Simulink and created as a modular structure. The pitch control system is used for stabilization of the wind turbine at grid faults. In this way, voltage stability of the system with grid-connected wind turbines can be improved by using blade-angle control for a temporary reduction of the wind turbine power during a short-circuit fault in the grid. This paper shows a new variable control for maintaining of voltage stability, when a three-phase fault is applied close to the wind turbine and cleared by disconnecting the affected line. In th…

Distributed Leadership Collaboration Factors to Support Idea Generation In Computer-Supported Collaborative e-Learning

2011

This paper aims to identify, discuss and analyze students’ collaboration factors related to distributed leadership (DL), which correlates with interaction quality evident in idea generation. Scripting computer-supported collaborative e-learning (CSCeL) activities based on DL can scaffold students’ interactions that support collaboration and promote idea generation. Furthermore, the associated tools can facilitate collaboration via scripting and shed light on students’ interactions and dialogical sequences. Such detailed planning can result in effective short e-courses. In this case study, 21 MSc students’ teams worked on a DL project within a 2-day e-course at the IT Institute (ITIN), Franc…

Teachers’ pedagogical leadership in early childhood education

2023

Background: Although the contexts, structures and administrations of early childhood education (ECE) may differ internationally, effective pedagogical leadership remains an essential component in supporting young children’s development and learning. This paper reports on a comparative study which considered ECE in two different settings, Finland and Florida, providing insight into teachers’ perspectives on the characteristics of pedagogical leadership. Purpose: This study sought to investigate and compare the perspectives of ECE teachers and directors in Finland and Florida via their discourses about teachers’ pedagogical leadership. The goal was to provide an overview of the ECE teachers’ …

A scalable multiagent system architecture for interactive applications

2013

Interactive applications like crowd simulations need to properly render the virtual world while simulating the interaction of thousands of agents at the same time. The computational workload generated by these two tasks highly increases with the number of the simulated agents, requiring a scalable design of the multiagent system. In this paper, we present, in an unified manner, a distributed multiagent system architecture that can manage large crowds of autonomous agents at interactive rates while rendering multiple views of the virtual world being simulated. This architecture consists of a distributed multiagent system and a complementary distributed visualization subsystem. We also presen…

Multi-Agent Based Energy Management in Microgrids Using MACSimJX

2019

Excessive growth in electricity consumption has been experienced over the past few years due to an increase in population around the world. This tends to increase the use of renewable energy and randomness of the load. So.it is important to improve the traditional methodologies and techniques applied on microgrid to make it more intelligent. In this paper, multi agent system is employed over autonomous microgrid framework to endorse its intelligence. The Multi-Agent system is simulated in Java Agent Development Environment (JADE) environment and matlab toolbox Simulink is used for the implementation of the microgrid model. Further, MACSimJX is used to communicate between the micro grid and a…

Multi-modal search for multiobjective optimization: an application to optimal smart grids management

2012

This paper studies the possibility to use efficient multimodal optimizers for multi-objective optimization. In this paper, the application area considered for such new approach is the optimal dispatch of energy sources in smart microgrids. The problem indeed shows a non uniform Pareto front and requires efficient optimal search methods. The idea is to exploit the potential of agents in population-based heuristics to improve diversity in the Pareto front, where solutions show the same rank and are thus equally weighted. Since Pareto dominance is at the basis of the theory of multi-objective optimization, most algorithms show the non dominance ranking as quality indicator, with some problem i…

Large Networks of Dynamic Agents: Consensus under Adversarial Disturbances

2012

This paper studies interactions among homogeneous social groups within the framework of large population games. Each group is represented by a network and the behavior described by a two-player repeated game. The contribution is three-fold. Beyond the idea of providing a novel two-level model with repeated games at a lower level and population games at a higher level, we also establish a mean field equilibrium and study state feedback best-response strategies as well as worst-case adversarial disturbances in that context.

An Initial Security Analysis of the Personal Transaction Protocol

2003

Our society is becoming increasingly dependent on the rapid access and processing of information. The number of handheld mobile devices with access to the Internet and network-based software and services is exploding. Research indicates [1] that by the end of 2002 there will be over 1 billion mobile phone owners globally with Internet access, and that this number is going to grow exponentially in the nearest future. By 2006 the number of interconnected mobile device users is expected exceed the worldwide Internet subscriber population. It is estimated that in a few years there will be three times as many of these devices worldwide as personal computers.
