Perfect Hashing Structures for Parallel Similarity Searches
2015
International audience; Seed-based heuristics have proved to be efficient for studying similarity between genetic databases with billions of base pairs. This paper focuses on algorithms and data structures for the filtering phase in seed-based heuristics, with an emphasis on efficient parallel GPU/manycores implementa- tion. We propose a 2-stage index structure which is based on neighborhood indexing and perfect hashing techniques. This structure performs a filtering phase over the neighborhood regions around the seeds in constant time and avoid as much as possible random memory accesses and branch divergences. Moreover, it fits particularly well on parallel SIMD processors, because it requ…
Tourism product/ service attribute influence on overall tourist satisfaction level in Riga
2019
Tourist satisfaction is significant for successful destination marketing as it affects the choice of destination, consumption of tourism products and services as well as the decision to return to the destination and intentions to recommend the destination to other potential tourists. The mutual positive influence of customer satisfaction and loyalty is indisputably proven by empirical research studies carried out in different economic fields and industries, including tourism. The aim of the research was to study the satisfaction level of foreign tourists as consumers with various tourism product attributes in Riga and its influence on overall satisfaction and further consumer behaviour of t…
The impact of ideological positions and personal attributes of candidates in intraparty competition: A study under the Swiss open‐listPRSystem
2022
Intraparty preference voting systems offer different incentives for candidates to cultivate a personal vote, but little is known about how the candidates' policy positions affect their elec-toral success in intraparty competition. This article analyses the effect of candidates' ideological positions and personal attributes on their preference vote share in the 2015 and 2019 Swiss Lower House elections. We used candidate survey data combined with official election statistics. Our findings demon-strate that the ideological distance between candidates' posi-tions and their party's median position is of minor importance for their electoral success when compared to their personal attributes. How…
Measurement and communication interfaces for distributed generation in smart grids
2013
The aim of this work is to perform a feasibility study on the measurement and communication strategies for the development of a new generation of interface devices for distributed generators and their integration on smart grids. The communication system can use one or more technologies, at the various levels, creating a low cost network infrastructure, in the framework of a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) architecture. As regards the measurements, the attention is focused on the anti-islanding protection, based on a hybrid solution, which makes use of local measurements and communications with the grid, at both MV and LV level by employing the PLC technology. Some simulatio…
An interface protection system with power line communication for distributed generators remote control
2014
The aim of this work is to present a narrow band power line communication (NB-PLC) interface protection system (IPS) for distributed generators (DGs); it has been developed according to the current standard CEI 0-21 and the requirements for smart grid applications. For such applications, the new IPSs have to implement new intelligent functions such as remote monitoring and control of DGs and Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) inverters, not only in terms of disconnection but also of voltage regulation and power modulation by the utility control. The main feature of the developed IPS is the ability to interact with both the grid and the DG's and ESS's inverters. In fact, it can communicate with t…
A Line Impedance Calculator Based on a G3 PLC Modem Platform
2022
Power line communication (PLC) is one of the most today used technologies for both automatic meter reading and many other smart grid applications. In this framework, a characterization of the electrical network in the PLC frequency range is needed in terms of impedance measurement and received signal level. This can allow choosing the most suitable and less noisy frequency ranges for PLC transmission. Usually, these characterization measurements are performed with dedicated instrumentation and in the absence of mains voltage. This article wants to propose an alternative solution, which allows these kinds of measurements to be performed using electronic boards currently used as on-field appl…
L'infinitif des constructions perceptives : un prédicat de l'objet (direct)?
2016
In this study, we investigate the infinitive verb found in the subordinate infinitive (traditional grammar) from a strictly syntactic point of view (what is the role it plays in the structure phrase?), even if the arguments we advance to do this are from the syntax and semantics. Our main goal is to show that although this infinitive formally resembles a predicate of the object, it can not/should not yet be analyzed in this way in syntax.
“Čut’ živye, v noč’ osennjuju / My s ochoty vozvraščaemsja…” Secondary predicate in Nekrasov’s poetic texts
2021
The main aim of the article is to examine the grammatical and stylistic functions of the predicative attribute in the poetic work of Nekrasov. The study contributes to the general ‘grammar of poetry’, which has been proposed and developed by Roman Jakobson. The study shows that Nekrasov often used the predicative attribute and it constitutes one of the specific features of his style. Grammatically extended adjectival, participial and adverbial phrases, frequent in Nekrasov’s poetry, cause additional predication, which makes it possible to expand the narrative. The predicative attribute often combines the functions of an attribute with those of the adverbial modifiers of cause and consequenc…
Linear Types for Higher Order Processes with First Class Directed Channels
1995
Abstract We present a small programming language for distributed systems based on message passing processes. In contrast to similar languages, channels are one-to-one connections between a unique sender and a unique receiver process. Process definitions and channels are first class values and the topology of process systems can change dynamically. The operational semantics of the language is defined by means of graph rewriting rules. A static type system based on the notion of linear types ensures that channels are always used as one-to-one connections.
A study on the assessment of the production costs curves in micro-grids
2013
In micro-grids, due to their small scale, there is commonly only one power supplier. A competitive wholesale market hardly exists, so the question about how to consider market issues for small producers within micro-grids arises. On the other hand, the specific features of micro-grids where load and generated power hardly find a balance, require that customers take part to regulation issues, also using demand-response (DR) programs. In this paper, price responsive (PR) policies and their programs are discussed to answer this question. A case study of a micro-grid with one micro-turbine and two photovoltaic (PV) generators is analyzed to assess the overall production cost in order to build a…
