Estimation of wind velocity over a complex terrain using the Generalized Mapping Regressor

Abstract Wind energy evaluation is an important goal in the conversion of energy systems to more environmentally friendly solutions. In this paper, we present a novel approach to wind speed spatial estimation on the isle of Sicily (Italy): an incremental self-organizing neural network (Generalized Mapping Regressor – GMR) is coupled with exploratory data analysis techniques in order to obtain a map of the spatial distribution of the average wind speed over the entire region. Rīga, Latvijas Universitāte, Ģeogrāfijas un Zemes zinātņu fakultāte, 2015. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir salīdzināt statiskās zondēšanas datus ar laboratorijā analizēto grunšu paraugu rezultātiem un novērtēt granulometriskā sastāva un fizikālo īpašību interpretācijas iespējas. Rezultāti pierāda, ka nav iespējams ar statisko zondēšanu noteikt tādus parametrus, kā grunts granulometriskais sastāvs un tādu fizikālu īpašību kā dabīgais mitrums, tomēr iegūtais berzes koeficients netieši norāda uz to mainību.
Search for scalar leptoquarks in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

An inclusive search for a new-physics signature of lepton-jet resonances has been performed by the ATLAS experiment. Scalar leptoquarks, pair-produced in pp collisions at s √s = 13 TeV at the large hadron collider, have been considered. An integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb-1, corresponding to the full 2015 dataset was used. First (second) generation leptoquarks were sought in events with two electrons (muons) and two or more jets. The observed event yield in each channel is consistent with Standard Model background expectations. The observed (expected) lower limits on the leptoquark mass at 95% confidence level are 1100 and 1050 GeV (1160 and 1040 GeV) for first and second generation leptoqua…
