SAR Image Classification Combining Structural and Statistical Methods

The main objective of this paper is to develop a new technique of SAR image classification. This technique combines structural parameters, including the Sill, the slope, the fractal dimension and the range, with statistical methods in a supervised image classification. Thanks to the range parameter, we define the suitable size of the image window used in the proposed approach of supervised image classification. Abstract The matrix diffusion of non-sorbing tracers was studied in rocks from the Syyry area, Central Finland (SY1). The effect of alteration and weathering on rock matrix porosity and on the available pore space, which affects diffusivity, are discussed. The main rock type in the crystalline bedrock of Syyry is a slightly foliated, gray tonalite with mica gneiss inclusions as well as minor, more mafic inclusions. Abstract Light scattering by particles large compared to the wavelength of incident light is traditionally solved using ray optics which considers absorption inside the particle approximately, along the ray paths. To study the effects rising from this simplification, we have updated the ray-optics code SIRIS to take into account the propagation of light as inhomogeneous plane waves inside an absorbing particle. We investigate the impact of this correction on traditional ray-optics computations in the example case of light scattering by ice crystals through the extended near-infrared (NIR) wavelength regime. Intermediate-depth earthquake generation and shear zone formation caused by grain size reduction and shear heating

cited By 23; The underlying physics of intermediate-depth earthquakes have been an enigmatic topic; several studies support either thermal runaway or dehydration reactions as viable mechanisms for their generation. Here we present fully coupled thermomechanical models that investigate the impact of grain size evolution and energy feedbacks on shear zone and pseudotachylite formation. Our results indicate that grain size reduction weakens the rock prior to thermal runaway and significantly decreases the critical stress needed for thermal runaway, making it more likely to result in intermediate-depth earthquakes at shallower depths. International audience; The IR absorption spectra of CH4 in pure gas and in mixture with helium were studied in the region of nu3 band at higher J line clusters R(17)-R(22). The frequencies and intensities of rotation-vibration lines were estimated from the experimental spectra at Doppler shape conditions. The line frequencies and intensities were calculated and used for the attribution of overlapped lines in clusters. The calculated line intensities are close to the experimental values. Abstract The Schoningen 13II-4 site is well known for the discovery of multiple wooden spears in association with a large assemblage of Middle Pleistocene fauna. Such extraordinary organic preservation also extends to a wide array of bone surface modifications that can be used to reconstruct Middle Pleistocene hominin butchery practices. On bones with few hominin-induced marks, the butchery sequence can be determined quite easily.
