Abstract Health care personnel (HCP) are at high risk of acquiring influenza due to exposure to patients. However, vaccination in HCP is lower than 40% for most European countries. The aim of this study was to determine the attitude towards influenza vaccination and possible reasons for this attitude in HCP. A cross-sectional study was performed in a multidisciplinary hospital of Latvia. The sample (n = 1099) included doctors (239), nurses (418), care services (236), administrative staff (108), and technical support staff (98). Rotavirus gastroenteritis: epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic aspects and economic implications

Results 114 cases were diagnosed with rotavirus gastroenteritis in 2011 and 122 cases in 2012, frequently in the colder months, sex ratio M/F 1.42/1 in 2011, 1.18/1 in 2012 and in the age group 1-3 (58.90% of cases). The clinical severity was assessed by Vesikari score: 91 cases admitted in 2011 (79.82%) and 112 cases admitted in 2012 (91.80%) presenting a medium/severe score. 15 cases presented neurological symptoms and also 15 cases had renal failure. Among the electrolyte disorders the most commonly found was hyponatremia ( 150mEq/L). The hospitalization costs of rotavirus gastroenteritis cases ranged from 58.60€ to 5345 RON (1243.02€).
931 Intestinal Parasites in Internationally Adopted Children in Belgium

Background and Aims 314 internationally adopted children were seen between 01/01/2008 and 31/03/2012 at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (Belgium). We describe the prevalence of pathogenic intestinal parasites in this population. Methods Retrospective analysis of patient records. Feces samples were obtained in 307/314 children. In addition, serology for Strongyloides and Schistosoma was performed. Results Pathogenic parasites were found in 55.7% (53% in children 0–5 years, 72.1% > 5years). Enchondroma (EC) is a benign and cartilage-forming tumor that causes intramedullary lesions. Moreover, EC is the most common bone tumor in the phalanges and metacarpal bones of the hand, deforming the structure and causing pain and functional limitation. The management of this neoplasia is the surgical treatment and the approach that is well-accepted consists in the curettage followed by the void augmentation with biological or synthetic fillers. An important risk of higher contamination of the rural environment may be suspected from newly reported cases of infected foxes or voles in several countries where the disease was not found before. Peru is a country with wide regional disparities in health. Remote Amazonian communities have high rates of poverty and poor access to health services. There is a lack of data on morbidity and use of health services in the region. We describe a descriptive, cross-sectional study of the demographic characteristics and presenting complaints of attendees to a newly-opened primary care facility in a remote community. This was supplemented by structured interviews of adult attendees to build a picture of sociocultural determinants of health locally, including engagement with traditional forms of medicine. Leishmaniasis is a parasitic infection affecting ∼12 million people worldwide, mostly in developing countries. Treatment options are limited and no effective vaccines exist to date. Natural Killer T (NKT) cells are a conserved innate-like lymphocyte population with immunomodulating effects in various settings.
