On the construction, comparison, and exchangeability of tuning systems
2015
The aim of this article is to describe mathematically different tuning systems, to study their mathematical properties, and to propose a construction allowing their comparison. In order to reach these goals, we introduce a concept of similarity between tuning systems and then we provide two sufficient conditions for the particular case in which a tuning system generated by an interval and a circulating temperament are compared. Finally, we show by means of an example that, for two tuning systems to be exchangeable, some well-known results determining the suitable number of notes per octave are not enough.
Qualidade docente e eficácia escolar
2008
Equal Opportunities Analysis in the University: The Gender Perspective
2003
The social systems’ complexity is a consequence of the human presence. Measurements and evaluations are rather qualitative and, in many cases, heuristic and / or linguistic. Human beings are not equally treated, with a clear discrimination based on age, gender, race or culture, among many other reasons. Women discrimination is the focus of our study in this paper. The university, as a social system, is investigated. The goal is to determine the degree of gender discrimination and to provide the tools to evaluate different actions to improve the equal opportunity (EO) principle in its operation.
Contributions to the study of educational returns
2016
In Tunisia, enrollment rates in tertiary education had soared up over the past two decades. A significant increase of student annual flows imposed the implementation of reforms that led to an increase in the number of higher education institutions and universities. One of the challenges in Tunisia and many African countries is to improve the efficiency of education systems to promote employability and graduates employment. This thesis discuss the question of the efficiency of education from an economic approach based on returns to education in the labor market. The first chapter analyses private returns to education particularly higher education in African countries. Our findings highlight …
A Dynamic Reasoning Architecture for Computer Network Management
2005
This paper focuses on improving network management and monitoring by the adoption of Artificial Intelli- gence techniques. In order to allow automated reasoning on networking concepts, we defined an accurate ontologi- cal model capable of describing as better as possible the networking domain. The thorough representation of the do- main knowledge is used by a Logical Reasoner, which is an expert system capable of performing high-level manage- ment tasks.
Assessing land condition as a first step to achieving land degradation neutrality : A case study of the Republic of Srpska
2018
Abstract Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) is a key voluntary and aspirational target of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15 which urges countries to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. A first and critical important step in the implementation of LDN is assessing the current land condition using not only active restoration of degraded land, but also targeting land degradation drivers behind the land degradation process. In a first step to achieve these goals, countries were provided a global dataset for three sub-indicators of land degra…
Simulation versus Optimization in the assessment of the resource opportunity cost in complex water resources systems.

“P. RISULTATI: Sono stati registra…
Outside-host phage therapy as a biological control against environmental infectious diseases
2018
Background Environmentally growing pathogens present an increasing threat for human health, wildlife and food production. Treating the hosts with antibiotics or parasitic bacteriophages fail to eliminate diseases that grow also in the outside-host environment. However, bacteriophages could be utilized to suppress the pathogen population sizes in the outside-host environment in order to prevent disease outbreaks. Here, we introduce a novel epidemiological model to assess how the phage infections of the bacterial pathogens affect epidemiological dynamics of the environmentally growing pathogens. We assess whether the phage therapy in the outside-host environment could be utilized as a biologi…
