Suivi Botanique de l’Archipel de Zembra
2013
The florula of hypersaline habitats in Central Mediterranean and its biological traits
2018
Salinity is one of the most widespread soil degradation processes. In fact in saline soils uneven temporal and spatial water distribution and localized high concentration of salts occur, characterizing restricted habitats where most of the present organisms are halophilic or salt tolerant. Soils could be classified hypersaline when salt concentration exceeds certain thresholds (1, 2). For this study were analysed 10 hypersaline soil localities from Sicily (Birgi, Isola Lunga, Salinelle Marsala, Capo Feto, Piana del Signore, Vendicari) and Tunisia (Qurba, Khniss, Ras Dimas, Chebba). These areas are temporarily flooded in autumn and winter, with longer permanence of water in some zones. Salt …
Lectotypification of six names of species of Scabiosa S.L. (Caprifoliaceae) endemic to north Africa and related taxonomic notes
2020
As part of an ongoing project for the investigation of the Algerian-Tunisian flora, six names of species of Caprifoliaceae subfam. Dipsacaceae, endemic to central and western North Africa, described in the 19th and 20th Centuries under the genus Scabiosa, are here lectotypified. They are: Scabiosa camelorum Cosson & Durieu, Scabiosa cartenniana Pons & Quézel, Scabiosa daucoides Desf., Scabiosa farinosa Cosson, Scabiosa parielii Maire, and Scabiosa robertii Barratte. Taxonomic notes, distributisson and new unpublished data about plant phenology of these taxa are given.
PLANT LANDSCAPE OF RAS DIMAS PENINSULA (GOVERNATORATE OF MONASTIR, CENTRAL COASTAL TUNISIA)
2014
The Ras Dimas lagoon lies along the coast of Central Tunisia (35°37'45.84"N, 11° 2'44.61"E), in the region of Sahel, about 20 km linear distance to the south from Monastir and about 160 km from Tunisi. The lagoon is made up by a sandy peninsula with white sands rich in limestone with fine granulometry, about 3 km long, up to 200 m wide and up to 2 m high, that contains about 120 hectares of sea. Previously this peninsula was regularly isolated from the continent forming the island of Edzira, in the last years, sea storms and the different streams course, likely caused by the restructuring of the Port of Bekalta, has given the actual configuration of a peninsula. In April 2013, as part of th…
Contribution to the knowledge of Tunisian amphibians: notes on distribution, habitat features and breeding phenology
2009
In order to improve the knowledge on amphibian fauna in Tunisia, about 300 water bodies belonging to different habitat typologies were sampled during the period 2004-2008. At the sites where amphibians were observed, we recorded the UTM coordinates, the altitude, and the following environmental features: habitat typology, hydroperiod, electric conductivity, temperature, water turbidity, and macrophyte coverage. The presence of the seven species currently known with certainty for Tunisia has been confirmed: Pleurodeles nebulosus, Discoglossus pictus, Bufo bufo, B. mauritanicus, B. boulengeri, Hyla meridionalis and Pelophylax saharicus. Conversely, no evidence on the occurrence of Salamandra …
Biological characteristics of three Brachyuran crab species in the Lagoon of Elbibane, South-Eastern Tunisia
2016
This study is a first contribution to the knowledge of the biology of three crab species, Carcinus aestuarii, Eriphia verrucosa and Pachygrapsus marmoratus, occurring in the intertidal zone of Elbibane lagoon, south-eastern Tunisia. A total of 1264 individuals from the three brachyuran species were collected monthly from April 2010 until March 2011 and their reproduction and growth parameters were determined. The seasonal distribution of carapace width showed for the three species that males have always a greater size than females. The length-weight relationship showed in the three species a negative allometry in males, and in non-ovigerous females. The von Bertalanffy growth model (VBGF) p…

New data on Protaetia (Potosia) Opaca (Coleoptera Cetoniidae) from Pantelleria island (Sicilian Channel, Italy)
2018
Protaetia (Potosia) opaca (Fabricius 1787) (Coleoptera Scarabaeoidea Cetoniidae) is here being reported for the first time from the island of Pantelleria (Sicilian Channel, Central Mediterranean Sea, Italy). Taxonomic, distribution and biological data on this species are presented.
The first confirmed record of the Atlantic blue crab Callinectes sapidus Rathbun, 1896 (Decapoda, Brachyura) from Maltese waters
2022
The invasive portunid species Callinectes sapidus is hereby recorded for the first time from Maltese waters, thus updating the known distribution of this decapod of Atlantic origin within the Mediterranean. Potential introduction pathways of the species to Maltese waters are discussed.
