Los Mapas de Gestión de las Empresas Cotizadas Chilenas. Análisis Cuantitativo
2017
Urban smart mobility in the scientific literature — bibliometric analysis
2018
Abstract This article aims at identification of the main trends in scientific literature characterising urban smart mobility, on the basis of bibliometric analysis of articles published in the ISI Web of Science and Scopus databases. The study period was set from 2000 to 2017. Authors used a basic technique of the bibliometric analysis of the scientific literature characterising urban smart mobility with the support of the VOSviewer software. The analysis included the number of publications, citation analysis, research area analysis and the most frequent keywords. The analysis led to taking notice of current research trends dealing with the urban smart mobility. The core of the paper is a t…
Financial Sector Reform after the Crisis: Has Anything Happened?
2013
We analyze the reaction of stock returns and CDS spreads of banks from Europe and the United States to four major regulatory reforms in the aftermath of the subprime crisis, employing an event study analysis. In contrast to the public perception that nothing has happened, we find that financial markets indeed reacted to the structural reforms enacted at the national level. All reforms succeeded in reducing bail-out expectations, especially for systemic banks. However, banks’ profitability was also affected, showing up in lower equity returns. The strongest effects were found for the Dodd-Frank Act (especially the Volcker rule), whereas market reactions to the German restructuring law were s…
Trade Openness and the Skill Premium An Inverted - UU Relation?
2016
Relying on linked employer–employee data from the German manufacturing sector in 1996–2010, I study the relation between the share of exporting establishments and the skill premium within narrowly defined industries. I document that the skill premium tends to be higher in industries with a larger share of exporting establishments. However, once unobserved industry heterogeneity is taken into account, the empirical evidence suggests an inverted-‘U’ relation between the share of exporting establishments and the skill premium.
School Tracking and Mental Health
2019
To understand how the type of education affects long-term mental health, we examine the effects of a comprehensive school reform on mental health–related hospitalizations and deaths. The reform postponed the tracking of students into vocational and academic schools from age 11 to age 16, thus affecting the set of peers and the curriculum to which these students were exposed. The reform was implemented gradually across Finnish municipalities between 1972 and 1977. We use difference-in-differences variation and administrative data. Our overall results show no discernible effects on mental health–related hospitalizations or deaths, but heterogeneity analysis shows an adverse effect on hospital…
A new approach to modelling the shelf life of Gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata)
2013
Summary A total of 217 Gilthead seabreams were subdivided in four groups, according to four different storage conditions. All fish were evaluated by both Quality Index Method (QIM) and microbiological analysis, sampling skin, gills and flesh, separately. A QIM score predictive system was set by modelling the growth of microflora of skin, gills and flesh and coupling these predictions to each related partial QIM score (QIMSkin, QIMGills, QIMFlesh). The expression of QIM score as a function of bacterial behaviour was carried out by the employment of two coefficients. The predicted mean bacterial concentrations corresponding to the QIM score at 14 days were always near to Log 8 CFU g−1 in the …
Regional industrial restructuring: Asset modification and alignment for digitalization
2020
This paper provides a conceptual framework to understand the innovation‐based restructuring of industries in a regional context. The framework includes how firms create new assets, reuse existing assets, and overcome hampering barriers to support innovation processes. The framework also covers how such asset modifications take place at the innovation system level. A core argument is that innovation activity is strengthened and regional restructuring supported when firms’ internal assets are aligned with assets at the regional innovation system level. We illustrate the framework with empirical examples of how digitalization as an innovation process takes place in firms in traditional manufac…
Bioaccessibility of glucoraphanin from broccoli using anin vitrogastrointestinal digestion model
2014
This study investigated the effect of cooking methods on the degradation of glucoraphanin (GR) in broccoli and the bioaccessibility of this compound through simulated gastrointestinal digestion. Broccoli was cooked using three different techniques: boiling, steaming and microwave cooking. Then, GR was extracted and quantified by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). In addition, the cooked samples were added to a system that simulates the digestion characteristics of the mouth, stomach and duodenum. Samples were drawn before and after the digestion, and GR bioaccessibility was calculated. GR losses were higher when broccoli was boiled (47.03%), followed by …
The metabolic versatility of PAOs as an opportunity to obtain a highly P-enriched stream for further P-recovery
2015
The effects of two sequencing batch reactor operation strategies for phosphorus stream enrichment over the biological phosphorus removal performance have been studied. The objective of both strategies is of performing an extraction cycle in order to obtain a new stream highly enriched with phosphorus. In the 1st strategy the amount of influent volatile fatty acids (VFAs) is the same in each cycle; while in the 2nd strategy the influent VFAs concentration is increased during phosphorus extraction experiments. Despite the strong decrease of the stored poly-P inside the cells in both strategies after the recovery cycles, the ability of the systems to remove phosphorus was not affected. The P-r…
