This is the first part of the article, divided into two parts, dealing with the definition of a space-vector dynamic model of the linear induction motor (LIM) taking into consideration both the dynamic end-effects and the iron losses and its offline identification. Parallel fractional correlation: an optical implementation

2008

An optical setup to obtain all the fractional correlations of a one-dimensional input in a single display is implemented. The system works as a multichannel parallel correlator for a continuous set of fractional orders and presents a variable shift variance. Some experimental results together with computer simulations are performed to illustrate the performance of our proposal.

Mixed-aspect fractal surfaces

In order to provide accurate tools to model original surfaces in a Computer Aided Geometric Design context, we develop a formalism based on iterated function systems. This model enables us to represent both smooth and fractal free-form curves and surfaces. But, because of the self-similarity property underlying the iterated function systems, curves and surfaces can only have homogeneous roughness. Impacts of Emotional Intelligence and Leadership on Motivation in the German Hotel Industry

This paper aims to clarify the role of leadership and emotional intelligence in the motivational process of employees in the hotel industry. A review of relevant literature is done before a tentative model is presented to experts from the fields of leadership, emotional intelligence and the hotel industry to get their view on the constructed relations. After having been approved by the experts, the model has been tested with structuring equation modelling (SEM) based on a quantitative research among employees and leaders of the hotel industry in Germany. The positive relation among leadership and motivation as well as the moderating effect of emotional intelligence could be substantiated.

Abstract This paper gives additional information on the use of new class of composites constituted by Basalt Fiber Reinforced Polymer (BFRP) bonded with epoxy resin to concrete specimens as an alternative confinement material for compressed concrete members with respect to carbon or glass fibers. Two-view “cylindrical decomposition” of binary images

This paper describes the discrete cylindrical algebraic decomposition (DCAD) construction along two orthogonal views of binary images. The combination of two information is used to avoid ambiguities for image recognition purposes. This algorithm associates an object connectivity graph to each connected component, allowing a complete description of the structuring information. Moreover, an easy and compact representation of the scene is achieved by using strings in a five letter alphabet. Examples on complex digital images are also provided. © 2001 Elsevier Science Inc.

AbstractOur contribution reviews High Resolution Shock Capturing methods (HRSC) in the field of relativistic hydrodynamics with special emphasis on Riemann solvers. HRSC techniques achieve highly accurate numerical approximations (formally second order or better) in smooth regions of the flow, and capture the motion of unresolved steep gradients without creating spurious oscillations. A Polynomial Approach to the Piecewise Hyperbolic Method
