In Zambia the Ministry of General Education implemented two national literacy programs in order to improve low levels of reading; the Primary Reading Program (PRP) implemented from 1999 to 2014 and the Primary Literacy Program (PLP) piloted in some schools in 2014 before being scaled up. This research examines the acquisition of basic reading skills among learners in familiar languages at the end of grade 2 in the two national literacy programs. Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan draamakasvatusta alakoulussa. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tuoda esille luokanopettajien draaman käyttöä, draaman oppimisen mahdollisuuksia sekä niitä tekijöitä, jotka vaikuttavat ja asettavat haasteita draaman opetuskäytölle. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli tarkastella myös draaman asemaa alakoulun opetuksessa ja peilata tuloksia perusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman sisältöihin. Tutkimusaineisto (n = 22) kerättiin kyselylomakkeella ja analysoitiin käyttäen laadullista sisällönanalyysia. Tässä tutkimuksessa palataan viime vuosikymmenten vaihteessa ja 90-luvun alussa toteutettuun poikkeuskoulutukseen ja erityisesti siitä virinneeseen opettajankoulutuksen koulutusohjelmalliseen kehittämistyöhön. Jyväskylän yliopiston Chydenius-Instituutissa etsittiin yhteyksiä poikkeuskoulutuksen ja ns. normaalin koulutuksen välille, kun poikkeuskoulutuksen kehittämistyössä saatuja kokemuksia sovellettiin ja erityisesti harjoittelukäytänteitä kehitettiin edelleen uuden ylioppilaspohjaiseen kokeilukoulutusohjelman puitteissa kahden vuosikurssin ajan 1992-1996.
Classifying economics for the common good : a note on the links between sustainable development goals and JEL codes

Purpose This brief note sheds light on the links between Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) codes and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Design/methodology/approach Three alternative methods based on keyword overlap to establish links between SDGs and JEL codes are presented. Findings These simple linkages illustrate that the themes of SDGs have corresponding closely related JEL classification codes. Research limitations/implications The mappings presented in this note are based on simple keyword overlap and are therefore necessarily imperfect and incomplete. The aim of this dissertation was explore the beliefs and practices of pre-service primary teachers on using simulations as a part of guided inquiry-based lessons. Even though research has shown that using simulations to learn science offers certain learning benefits compared to other forms of instruction, their use in Finnish schools is still rare compared to the international average. Teacher training has the potential to promote the use of simulations in primary classrooms. Internationally, research has been called for the role of teachers in learning and teaching with simulations.
