Aktiivitaulun käyttö toisen asteen ammatillisessa oppilaitoksessa

2012

Tutkielmassa kartoitettiin aktiivitaulujen käyttöä toisen asteen ammatillisessa koulutuksessa toteuttamalla kysely opiskelijoille ja opettajille. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, kuinka opiskelijat ja opettajat kokevat oppimisen ja opettamisen luokkahuoneessa, jossa on käytössä aktiivitaulu. This Master’s Thesis researched the usage of Interactive Whiteboards in Voca-tional Education. Survey was conducted to students and teachers who have experience about Interactive Whiteboards in learning. The research was focused on the question, how students and teachers experience the learning and teaching in the classroom equipped with Interactive Whiteboard.

Denkstil und Sprache/n in den Wissenschaften. Mit Beispielen aus der Medizin

2011

Scientific research is often understood as an activity or process simultaneously focused on seeking and explaining universal laws of nature. This is especially true in the STEM fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. These universal laws of nature are widely understood as independent from human beings and individual languages. Because of this, the use of English as a lingua franca is often assumed as beneficial for the internationalisation and globalisation of academic life. The use of different languages is more widely accepted in social sciences, humanities and arts because their interest does not focus on universal laws of nature but on societal phenomena. In these disciplin…

Rats bred for low aerobic capacity become promptly fatigued and have slow metabolic recovery after stimulated, maximal muscle contractions.

2012

AIM. Muscular fatigue is a complex phenomenon affected by muscle fiber type and several metabolic and ionic changes within myocytes. Mitochondria are the main determinants of muscle oxidative capacity which is also one determinant of muscle fatigability. By measuring the concentrations of intracellular stores of high-energy phosphates it is possible to estimate the energy production efficiency and metabolic recovery of the muscle. Low intrinsic aerobic capacity is known to be associated with reduced mitochondrial function. Whether low intrinsic aerobic capacity also results in slower metabolic recovery of skeletal muscle is not known. Here we studied the influence of intrinsic aerobic capac…

On-Ice and Off-Ice Fitness Profiles of Elite and U20 Male Ice Hockey Players of Two Different National Standards

2020

Vigh-Larsen, JF, Haverinen, MT, Panduro, J, Ermidis, G, Andersen, TB, Overgaard, K, Krustrup, P, Parkkari, J, Avela, J, Kyröläinen, H, and Mohr, M. On-ice and off-ice fitness profiles of elite and U20 male ice hockey players of two different national standards. J Strength Cond Res 34(12): 3369-3376, 2020-Differences in body composition and performance were investigated between elite and U20 male ice hockey players of 2 different national standards. One hundred seventy-nine players were recruited from the highest Finnish (n = 82) and Danish (n = 61) national level, as well as from 1 U20 team from Finland (n = 19) and Denmark (n = 17). Body composition and countermovement jump performance (CM…

Coronary artery calcium and physical performance as determinants of mortality in older age: The AGES-Reykjavik Study

2013

Background. Coronary artery calcium (CAC) and physical performance have been shown to be associated with mortality, but it is not clear whether one of them modifies the association. We investigated the association between the extent of CAC and physical performance among older individuals and explored these individual and combined effects on cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality and non-CVD mortality. Methods. We studied 4074 participants of the AGES–Reykjavik Study who were free from coronary heart disease, had a CAC score calculated from computed tomography scans and had data on mobility limitations and gait speed at baseline in 2002–2006 at a mean age of 76 years. Register-based mortalit…

Individual Scaling of Accelerometry to Preferred Walking Speed in the Assessment of Physical Activity in Older Adults

2020

Abstract Background Walking forms a large portion of physical activity (PA) of older adults. We assessed free-living PA using acceleration corresponding to preferred walking speed as a relative cut-point and studied how it relates to age. We compared the relative cut-point to a common absolute cut-point of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA). Method Four hundred forty-four community-dwelling adults aged 75, 80, and 85 years wore an accelerometer on the thigh during a PA surveillance period and a modified 6-minute walking test (6MWT) at preferred speed. Each individual’s mean acceleration (g) during the 6MWT was used as a cut-point for relative PA. Acceleration corresponding to thr…

Relative peak exercise oxygen pulse is related to sudden cardiac death, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in middle-aged men

2018

Background Preliminary evidence suggests that peak exercise oxygen pulse – peak oxygen uptake/heart rate-, a variable obtained during maximal cardiopulmonary exercise testing and a surrogate of stroke volume, is a predictor of mortality. We aimed to assess the associations of peak exercise oxygen pulse with sudden cardiac death, fatal coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality. Design A prospective study. Methods Peak exercise oxygen pulse was assessed in a maximal cycling test at baseline in 2227 middle-aged men of the Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease cohort study using expired gas variables and electrocardiograms. Relative peak exercise oxygen pulse was obtain…
