Study of quantitative and qualitative variations in essential oils of Sicilian oregano biotypes

2015

Essential oil (EO) was extracted using hydrodistillation from samples of Origanum vulgare subspecies hirtum (Link) Ietswaart, gathered from the wild in various parts of Sicily, Italy; GC-FID and GC-MS analyses were subsequently performed. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between essential oil yields and the geographical distribution of oregano wild populations based on variations in environmental factors as collection sites. Moreover, the purpose was to group Origanum vulgare subspecies hirtum biotypes according to the chemical composition of the EO. The seven principal components in the EO was thymol (24.0–54.4%), γ-terpinene (9.8–30.5%), ρ-cymene (5.2–18.7%), α-terpine…

Zur Semantik und Wortbildung der Personenbezeichnungen im oberschlesischen Deutsch

2020

Similar to various other diatopic varieties of German language, one finds numerous person names in Upper Silesian German, in which all possible qualities and modes of existence of the human being are focused and expressed. In the article attention is drawn once to the semantic classes oc-curring here, as well as to the types of nomination activated in the formation of the names, and then to the word formation types and the languages from which the morphemes forming the names were derived.

Syntyperä kvalifikaationa : tutkimus perhetaustan vaikutuksesta korkeasti koulutettujen työmarkkina-asemaan 2000-luvun Suomessa

2016

Tutkimus tarkasteli perhetaustan vaikutusta korkeasti koulutettujen työmarkkina-asemaan 2000-luvun Suomessa. Ilmiötä tutkittiin European Social Surveyn vuoden 2008 Suomen aineistolla. Aineiston kolmannen asteen tutkinnon suorittaneet jaettiin vanhempien ammattiasemaan perusteella kahtia yläluokkaisten ja muiden jälkeläisiin. Eritaustaisten korkeasti koulutettujen työmarkkina-asemia vertailtiin tarkastelemalla heidän sijoittumista työssä vaadittavien erityisten ammattitaitojen määrän, työn itsenäisyyden asteen ja tulojen mukaan määriteltyihin työntekijäryhmiin. Lisäksi perhetaustan vaikutusta verrattiin sukupuolten välillä. Teoreettisena taustana oli välttämättömänä tienä lähes kaikenlaisiin…

Symbols of fear in the studies of drawings by Polish and Turkish children

2021

The authors present results of their studies dealing with symbols of fear identified in drawings made by Polish and Turkish children. The studies consisted in comparing results with regard to the categories and content of symbols recognized in the drawings presented by younger school-age children of the two nationalities. For the needs of the comparative analysis the following questions were formulated: In what way did the children present their fears in their drawings? How can the similarities in the symbols of fear presented in the drawings by Polish and Turkish children be interpreted? What do the observed differences testify to? Comparison of the symbols of fear allowed recognizing the …

Properties of zeros of solutions to third order nonlinear differential equations

2013

We investigate the behavior of zeros of solutions to the certain type of third order nonlinear differential equations. We show that the behavior of zeros may be rather different and depend on the nature of nonlinearity in the equation. Main results in the paper are illustrated with a number of examples.

An arthritogenic alphavirus uses the α1β1 integrin collagen receptor

2005

Ross River (RR) virus is an alphavirus endemic to Australia and New Guinea and is the aetiological agent of epidemic polyarthritis or RR virus disease. Here we provide evidence that RR virus uses the collagen-binding alpha1beta1 integrin as a cellular receptor. Infection could be inhibited by collagen IV and antibodies specific for the beta1 and alpha1 integrin proteins, and fibroblasts from alpha1-integrin-/- mice were less efficiently infected than wild-type fibroblasts. Soluble alpha1beta1 integrin bound immobilized RR virus, and peptides representing the alpha1beta1 integrin binding-site on collagen IV inhibited virus binding to cells. We speculate that two highly conserved regions with…

Genetic variability at αs2-casein gene in Girgentana dairy goat breed

2014

Casein genes are highly polymorphic and the high degree of variability has qualitative and quantitative effects on milk composition thereby affecting chemical, physical and technological properties of goat milk. The aim of this work was to evaluate the genetic polymorphisms of the αs2-casein (CSN1S2) gene in the endangered Girgentana dairy goat breed in order to assess the genotypes distribution, as it is known genotype influences technological and nutritional milk properties. The study was performed on 207 sample of Girgentana goat breed, analysed with different PCR protocols. The most frequent alleles was A (0.722), followed by F (0.225), C (0.051) and E (0.002) while B, D and 0 alleles w…
