The gendered effects of neoliberal economic restructuring around the world are usually studied in their most dramatic forms: cross-border migration, exploitation, resistance, and violence. This chapter examines significant transformations arising from economic restructuring in the nexus between gender, labour, and urban space — transformations in which mobile technologies are deeply implicated. It explores how mobile phones are used by the poor for day-to-day survival in Tanzania’s largest city. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on pyrkiä ymmärtämään lähisuhdeväkivaltaan liittyviä haasteita ammattilaisten näkökulmasta. Tutkimukseni kohdistuu siihen, minkälaisia esteitä lähisuhdeväkivaltaa työssään kohdanneet ammattilaiset kertovat liittyvän lähisuhdeväkivalta-aiheen puheeksi ottamiseen. Tutkimuksessani selvitin puheeksi ottamisen vaikeutta ja etsin ammattilaisten tapoja selittää tätä. Valitsemaani aihetta perustelen sillä, että tätä näkökulmaa ei ole mielestäni riittävästi aiemmin tutkittu. Measurement of the cosmic ray energy spectrum using hybrid events of the Pierre Auger Observatory

The energy spectrum of ultra-high energy cosmic rays above 10$^{18}$ eV is measured using the hybrid events collected by the Pierre Auger Observatory between November 2005 and September 2010. The large exposure of the Observatory allows the measurement of the main features of the energy spectrum with high statistics. Full Monte Carlo simulations of the extensive air showers (based on the CORSIKA code) and of the hybrid detector response are adopted here as an independent cross check of the standard analysis (Phys. Search for ultrarelativistic magnetic monopoles with the Pierre Auger Observatory

We present a search for ultra-relativistic magnetic monopoles with the Pierre Auger Observatory. Such particles, possibly a relic of phase transitions in the early universe, would deposit a large amount of energy along their path through the atmosphere, comparable to that of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs). The air shower profile of a magnetic monopole can be effectively distinguished by the fluorescence detector from that of standard UHECRs. No candidate was found in the data collected between 2004 and 2012, with an expected background of less than 0.1 event from UHECRs. Features of the Energy Spectrum of Cosmic Rays above 2.5×10$^{18}$ eV Using the Pierre Auger Observatory

We report a measurement of the energy spectrum of cosmic rays above $2.5{\times} 10^{18}$ eV based on $215,030$ events. New results are presented: at about $1.3{\times} 10^{19}$ eV, the spectral index changes from $2.51 \pm 0.03 \textrm{ (stat.)} \pm 0.05 \textrm{ (sys.)}$ to $3.05 \pm 0.05 \textrm{ (stat.)}\pm 0.10\textrm{ (sys.)}$, evolving to $5.1\pm0.3\textrm{ (stat.)} \pm 0.1\textrm{ (sys.)}$ beyond $5{\times} 10^{19}$ eV, while no significant dependence of spectral features on the declination is seen in the accessible range. Työssä tutkittiin suomalaisen yksityisen sektorin suuryritysten suhtautumista sosiaaliseen mediaan ja sosiaalisen median hyödyntämistä. Suhtautumisesta tutkittiin, millaista se on ja miten se on muuttunut viime vuosina. Hyödyntämisestä tutkittiin, millaisia käyttötarkoituksia organisaatioilla on eri sosiaalisen median palveluille, millaisia tavoitteita käytölle on asetettu ja millaisia sääntöjä, ohjeita tai rajoituksiao rganisaatioissa on sosiaalisen median käytölle. Tutkimus toteutettiin laadullisia menetelmiä ja sisällönanalyysejä hyödyntäen. Nuorten aikuisten verkkoyhteisöpalvelujen mobiilikäyttö

Tutkielmassa pyrittiin kuvaamaan ja ymmärtämään kuinka suomalaiset nuoret aikuiset käyttävät verkkoyhteisöpalveluja mobiilisti, ja millaisia tekijöitä käytön taustalla on. Tutkimuksen lähestymistavaksi valittiin käyttötarkoitustutkimus. Tutkimus suoritettiin määrällisenä tutkimuksena ja siinä käytettiin kyselylomaketta, johon pystyi vastaamaan verkossa. Tutkimuksen otantamenetelmä oli erityisesti tätä tutkimusta varten kehitetty verkko-otanta. Kyselyyn saatiin 265 vastausta, joista analyysiin otettiin rajauksen jälkeen 154. Kyselyn perusteella verkkoyhteisöpalvelujen mobiilin käytön osuus vaikuttaisi olevan noin 14 % verkkoyhteisöpalvelujen kokonaiskäytöstä. Facebook näyttää kyselyn peruste…

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on kuvata ja ymmärtää Suomen vanhimman ympäristöjärjestön, Suomen luonnonsuojeluliiton Facebook-viestintää sen aktiivisuuden, viestintäfunktioiden ja niiden aiheuttamien reaktioiden kautta. Tutkimuksessa käytettiin kahta aineistoa, Luonnonsuojeluliiton Facebook-tilapäivityksiä kommentteineen ja tykkäyksineen kuukauden ajalta vuosilta 2010 ja 2015. Samalla saatiin siis myös kuva siitä, miten Luonnonsuojeluliiton viestintä on tutkittavien seikkojen osalta muuttunut viidessä vuodessa.
