This paper introduces the idea of data-driven narratives to examine how the use of information, communications, and media technologies (ICMTs) impacts the sustainable growth of economies. While ICMTs have regularly been advocated as a policy tool for growth and development, there is a research gap in empirical studies validating how such policies may be effective. This analysis is based on historical panel data from 39 economies across the developed North (19) and developing South (20). Owners of the data, on the one hand, want to get added value from the data by using remote artificial intelligence tools as services, on the other hand, they concern on privacy of their data within external premises. This essay is a narration about my attempt to follow a small part of Emil and Dana Zátopek’s journey in the Finland of the 1980s. The essay also documents my visit to Mrs. Dana Zátopková in February 2012. When travelling in the history, I meet the Professor of Sports Science Vojmír Srdečný who is also a Sachsenhausen survivor, like many other academic people of his generation. I look for the Zátopeks in the Finnish National Archive in Helsinki by going through the calendars and notebooks of Minister Johannes Virolainen. However, Virolainen has not written any notes about his meeting with the Czech couple. From Prague and Helsinki I return to my home town, Turku, where Emil Zátopek made one …

The purpose of the article is to analyse the expansion of Finnish ski jumping. The main research questions are: who were the early actors in Finnish ski jumping; which were the social backgrounds of the ski jumping pioneers; and which were the changing goals of ski jumping actors. The article draws on different documents like histories, newspapers and assorted material. The ski jumping in Finland started in the 1880s by Norwegian sport pioneers. The first national ski jumpers were students at Sortavala teacher seminar, soldiers of army and middle-class jumpers in south Finland. The purpose of my study is to examine how female skiers are represented in the texts of a Finnish sports magazine, Urheilulehti, and how these representations have changed during the examination period from 1905 to 2010. Relying on Judith Butler’s ideology of gender performativity, I analyse the representations of female skiers from the perspective of promoting the traditional female norm and simultaneously from the perspective of breaking and reforming it.
