Trait anxiety and parental child-rearing behavior: Support as a moderator variable?

Abstract Based on central assumptions of the social support literature and on formulations concerning the construction of competence and consequence expectancies, a model for the interaction of maternal and paternal child-rearing behavior in the development of children's trait anxiety is presented. Pharmacology of the Sphincter of Oddi

The sphincter of Oddi is the smooth muscle connection between the bile duct and the duodenum. Its physiological function is associated with a regular motility characterized by phasic contractions superimposed on the sphincter of Oddi baseline pressure. Recently introduced ERCP-manometry permits further studies of sphincter of Oddi pharmacology. A number of drugs have so far been studied. Sedatives of the diazepam type had no effect on the sphincter, while butylscopolaminium bromide, a typical neurotropic agent, brings about cessation of the sphincter motility for 3-8 minutes. Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) of Orange Juice Flavor:  Odor Representativeness by Direct Gas Chromatography Olfactometry (D-GC-O)

The sensorial quality of solid phase microextraction (SPME) flavor extracts from orange juice was measured by direct gas chromatogrphy-olfactometry (D-GC-O), a novel instrumental tool for evaluating odors from headspace extracts. In general, odor impressions emerging from SPME extracts poorly resembled that of the original orange juice. In an attempt to improve the sensorial quality of extracts, sample equilibration and exposure times were varied on Carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane (CAR/PDMS) and divinylbenzene/Carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane (DVB/CAR/PDMS) SPME fibers. Background Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) is considered a problem in the food industry because it starts browning reactions during fruit and vegetable processing. Ultrasonic treatment is a technology used to inactivate the enzyme; however, the mechanism behind PPO inactivation is still unclear. Superior Antibacterial Activity of Integral Lemon Pectin Extracted via Hydrodynamic Cavitation

Abstract Pectin extracted via hydrodynamic cavitation in water only from waste lemon peel and further isolated via freeze drying displays significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, a Gram positive pathogen which easily contaminates food. The antibacterial effect of the new IntegroPectin is largely superior to that of commercial citrus pectin, opening the way to advanced applications of a new bioproduct now obtainable in large amounts and at low cost from citrus juice industry's waste.

Effect of storage period under variable conditions on the chemical and physical composition and colour of Spanish refrigerated orange juices

The effects of the physicochemical and quality characteristics of various minimally pasteurized refrigerated orange Spanish juices and their changes with storage time and temperature were investigated. Essential oils, acidity, conductivity, diacetyl index, hydroxymethylfurfural, formol index, viscosity and ascorbic acid varied with storage time more significantly at 10 degrees C than at 4 degrees C. Density, colour and pectinmethylesterase did not vary at 4 degrees C. Some of the parameters could be used as indicators of quality loss or spoilage of the juices. Helping children in bullying situations: The role of intersubjective understanding and co-regulation

Contemporary definitions of bullying are strikingly in agreement that bullying represents aggressive behaviour involving premeditation, time span, power imbalance and clear role assignment. Even though useful in some situations, these premises are not as helpful if the aim is to improve the social environment in educational contexts.
