The Suicidal State between “the Wish to Die” and “an Urge to Die”

Abstract From the standpoint of existential analysis, the present article compares the psycho-dynamics of the suicidal states examined hereby, where the first case is diagnosed as a “Major depressive episode. Borderline personality disorder” and the second case as “Severe major depressive episode, with psychotic elements”. In the first case, the suicidal state was based on the association between the second motivation (“to enjoy life”) and the third motivation (“to be myself”), and the suicidal act was a “false” one. In the second case, the suicidal state resulted from the second motivation (“to enjoy life”) and the first motivation (“being able to be”), and it was a “real” suicidal act.

Abstract Background Smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) is a promising methodology for mental health research. The objective of this study is to determine the feasibility of smartphone-based active and passive EMA in psychiatric outpatients and student controls. Methods Two smartphone applications —MEmind and eB2— were developed for behavioral active and passive monitoring. BACKGROUND: Medicine use among children and young people is under-researched. Studies that investigated cross-national patterns in adolescents' medicine use practice are rare. This study aims to investigate adolescents' medicine use for corresponding health complaints in Europe and USA. METHODS: Nationally representative samples of adolescents from 19 countries and regions in Europe and USA completed an anonymous, standardised questionnaire as part of the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children 2005/2006 survey. Background Improving attitudes of personnel towards self-injurious patients leads to better working alliance and contributes to better patient outcomes. Previous research into the improvement of these attitudes has recorded the need for specific training in evidence-based assessment and treatment of self-injurious patients. Intimate partner violence against women and the Nordic paradox

Nordic countries are the most gender equal countries in the world, but at the same time they have disproportionally high prevalence rates of intimate partner violence (IPV) against women. High prevalence of IPV against women, and high levels of gender equality would appear contradictory, but these apparently opposite statements appear to be true in Nordic countries, producing what could be called the 'Nordic paradox'. Despite this paradox being one of the most puzzling issues in the field, this is a research question rarely asked, and one that remains unanswered.
