Origin of the Large Perturbative Corrections to Higgs Production at Hadron Colliders
2008
The very large K-factor for Higgs-boson production at hadron colliders is shown to result from enhanced perturbative corrections of the form (C_A\pi\alpha_s)^n, which arise in the analytic continuation of the gluon form factor to time-like momentum transfer. These terms are resummed to all orders in perturbation theory using the renormalization group. After the resummation, the K-factor for the production of a light Higgs boson at the LHC is reduced to a value close to 1.3.
Infrared Singularities and Soft Gluon Resummation with Massive Partons
2010
Infrared divergences of QCD scattering amplitudes can be derived from an anomalous dimension matrix, which is also an essential ingredient for the resummation of large logarithms due to soft gluon emissions. We report a recent analytical calculation of the anomalous dimension matrix with both massless and massive partons at two-loop level, which describes the two-loop infrared singularities of any scattering amplitudes with an arbitrary number of massless and massive partons, and also enables soft gluon resummation at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic order. As an application, we calculate the infrared poles in the q qbar -> t tbar and gg -> t tbar scattering amplitudes at two-loop …
The hadronic cross-section in the resonance energy region
2004
Abstract We study the hadronic vacuum polarization in the resonance energy region, using the framework given bythe Resonance Effective Theory of QCD. We consider the incorporation of vector-pseudoscalar meson loops that give, inclusively, three and four pseudoscalar meson cuts. After resummation we achieve a QCD-based inclusive parameterization of the correlator, hence of the hadronic cross-section in the energy region populated by resonances.
NNLL momentum-space threshold resummation in direct top quark production at the LHC
2014
We update the theoretical precision of the total cross section for direct top quark production at the LHC by extending the threshold resummation to the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy.
Gauge-invariant resummation formalism for two-point correlation functions
1996
The consistent description of unstable particles, renormalons, or other Schwinger--Dyson-type of solutions within the framework of perturbative gauge field theories necessitates the definition and resummation of off-shell Green's functions, which must respect several crucial physical requirements. A formalism is presented for resummation of off-shell two-point correlation functions, which is mainly based on arguments of analyticity, unitarity, gauge invariance and renormalizability. The analytic results obtained with various methods, including the background field gauges and the pinch technique are confronted with the physical requirements imposed; to one-loop order the pinch technique appr…
Measurement of the Shape of the Boson-Transverse Momentum Distribution inpp¯→Z/γ*→e+e−+XEvents Produced ats=1.96 TeV
2008
We present a measurement of the shape of the Z/gamma* boson transverse momentum (q(T)) distribution in p (p) over bar -> Z/gamma(*)-> e(+)e(-)+X events at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV using 0.98 fb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data are found to be consistent with the resummation prediction at low q(T), but above the perturbative QCD calculation in the region of q(T)> 30 GeV/c. Using events with q(T)< 30 GeV/c, we extract the value of g(2), one of the nonperturbative parameters for the resummation calculation. Data at large boson rapidity y are compared with the prediction of resummation and with alternative models that employ a res…
Transverse-momentum resummation for vector-boson pair production at NNLL+NNLO
2015
We consider the transverse-momentum ($p_T$) distribution of $ZZ$ and $W^+W^-$ boson pairs produced in hadron collisions. At small $p_T$, the logarithmically enhanced contributions due to multiple soft-gluon emission are resummed to all orders in QCD perturbation theory. At intermediate and large values of $p_T$, we consistently combine resummation with the known fixed-order results. We exploit the most advanced perturbative information that is available at present: next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic resummation combined with the next-to-next-to-leading fixed-order calculation. After integration over $p_T$, we recover the known next-to-next-to-leading order result for the inclusive cross se…
Determination of alpha_s at NLO*+NNLL from a global fit of the low-z parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions in e+e- and DIS collisions
2014
The QCD coupling alpha_s is determined from a combined analysis of experimental e+e- and e-p jet data confronted to theoretical predictions of the energy evolution of the parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions (FFs) moments --multiplicity, peak, width, skewness-- at low fractional hadron momentum z. The impact of approximate next-to-leading order (NLO*) corrections plus next-to-next-to-leading log (NNLL) resummations, compared to previous LO+NLL calculations, is discussed. A global fit of the full set of existing data, amounting to 360 FF moments at collision energies sqrt(s)~1--200 GeV, results in alpha_s(m_Z^2)=0.1189^{+0.0025}_{-0.0014} at the Z mass.
Exclusive radiative Higgs decays as probes of light-quark Yukawa couplings
2015
We present a detailed analysis of the rare exclusive Higgs-boson decays into a single vector meson and a photon and investigate the possibility of using these processes to probe the light-quark Yukawa couplings. We work with an effective Lagrangian with modified Higgs couplings to account for possible new-physics effects in a model-independent way. The h->V\gamma{} decay rate is governed by the destructive interference of two amplitudes, one of which involves the Higgs coupling to the quark anti-quark pair inside the vector meson. We derive this amplitude at next-to-leading order in \alpha_s using QCD factorization, including the resummation of large logarithmic corrections and accounting f…
Renormalization and Scale Evolution of the Soft-Quark Soft Function
2020
Soft functions defined in terms of matrix elements of soft fields dressed by Wilson lines are central components of factorization theorems for cross sections and decay rates in collider and heavy-quark physics. While in many cases the relevant soft functions are defined in terms of gluon operators, at subleading order in power counting soft functions containing quark fields appear. We present a detailed discussion of the properties of the soft-quark soft function consisting of a quark propagator dressed by two finite-length Wilson lines connecting at one point. This function enters in the factorization theorem for the Higgs-boson decay amplitude of the $h\to\gamma\gamma$ process mediated by…
