T Violation and CPT Tests in Neutral-Meson Systems

2014

The review covers transitions between M0 and M0bar in all four systems M0 = K0, D0, B0 and Bs. These systems are ideal laboratories for studying the discrete symmetries T and CPT. The properties of time reversal T are discussed in classical and quantum mechanics. T violation in K0 K0bar transitions has been observed in 1970 independent of assuming CPT symmetry by using the Bell-steinberger unitarity relation. Improvements of this observation are reviewed including the latest results in 2013. They show with high significance that CP violation in K0 K0bar transitions is only T violation without any CPT violation. Transitions in the other three systems do not show CP violation so far and there…

Role of correlated two-pion exchange in $K^+ N$ scattering

1995

A dynamical model for S-- and P--wave correlated $2 \pi$ (and $K \bar K$) exchange between a kaon and a nucleon is presented, starting from corresponding $N \bar N \rightarrow K \bar K$ amplitudes in the pseudophysical region, which have been constructed from nucleon, $\Delta$--isobar and hyperon ($\Lambda$, $\Sigma$) exchange Born terms and a realistic meson exchange model of the $\pi \pi \rightarrow K \bar K$ and $K \bar K \rightarrow K \bar K$ amplitude. The contribution in the s--channel is then obtained by performing a dispersion relation over the unitarity cut. In the $\rho$--channel, considerable ambiguities exist, depending on how the dispersion integral is performed. Our model, sup…

Electromagnetic investigations of nucleon resonances and sum rules

2000

Abstract Pion photoproduction is analyzed by dispersion relations at fixed t . The results for s-wave production at threshold and p-wave production in the Δ(1232) resonance region are compared to the experimental data. These investigations are extended to the case of pion electroproduction in the framework of the Unitary Isobar Model. Recent developments to explore the spin structure of the nucleon by double-polarization observables are summarized, and new results for the spin polarizability, the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn and related sum rules are presented.

Isospin-breaking corrections to superallowed Fermi beta-decay in isospin- and angular momentum-projected nuclear Density Functional Theory

2012

Background: The superallowed beta-decay rates provide stringent constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. To extract crucial information about the electroweak force, small isospin-breaking corrections to the Fermi matrix element of superallowed transitions must be applied. Purpose: We perform systematic calculations of isospin-breaking corrections to superallowed beta-decays and estimate theoretical uncertainties related to the basis truncation, time-odd polarization effects related to the intrinsic symmetry of the underlying Slater determinants, and to the functional parametrization. Methods: We use the self-consistent isospin- and angular-momentum-projected nuc…

Unitarity Triangles and the Search for New Physics

2002

Assuming that the Kobayashi-Maskawa mechanism gives the dominant contribution to CP violation at low energies, we propose a novel way of testing the flavour sector of the Standard Model which has the potencial for discovering New Physics. Using 3 x 3 unitarity of the V_{CKM} matrix and choosing a complete set of rephasing invariant phases, we derive a set of exact relations in terms of measurable quantities, namely moduli of V_{CKM} and arguments of rephasing invariant quartets. These tests complement the usual analysis in the \rho, \eta plane and, if there is New Physics, may reveal its source.

Chiral dynamics in theγp→π0ηpandγp→π0K0Σ+reactions

2006

Using a chiral unitary approach for meson-baryon scattering in the strangeness zero sector, where the ${N}^{*}(1535){S}_{11}$ resonance is dynamically generated, we study the reactions $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}\ensuremath{\eta}p$ and $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}{K}^{0}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$ at photon energies at which the final states are produced close to threshold. Among several reaction mechanisms, we find the most important is the excitation of the ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{*}(1700){D}_{33}$ state, which subsequently decays into a pseudoscalar meson and a baryon belonging to the $\ensuremath{\Delta}(1232)…

On the CP asymmetries in Majorana neutrino decays

1997

We study the CP asymmetries in lepton number violating two body scattering processes and show explicitly how they vanish, in agreement with unitarity constraints. We relate these cross section asymmetries to the CP decay rate asymmetries of the intermediate massive neutrinos and show how the inclusion of the Universe expansion via Boltzmann equations is the key ingredient to allow the production of a non-vanishing asymmetry in spite of the unitarity constraint on the cross sections. We then show that the absorptive parts of both the one loop vertex and self energy corrections do contribute to the CP decay asymmetries.

New Physics in CP-violating observables for Beauty

2003

After the present establishment of CP-Violation in $B_{d}$-physics, consistency tests of unitarity in the Standard Model and the search of new phenomena are compulsory. I illustrate the way to look for T-violation, without contamination of absorptive parts, in correlated decays in B-factories. $B_{s}$-mixing and penguin-mediated $B_{s}$-decays are of prime importance in hadronic machines to look for new physics.

Two pion decay of the Roper resonance

2002

We evaluate the two pion decay of the Roper resonance in a model where explicit re-scattering of the two final pions is accounted for by the use of unitarized chiral perturbation theory. Our model does not include an explicit $\epsilon$ or $\sigma$ scalar-isoscalar meson decay mode, instead it generates it dynamically by means of the pion re-scattering. The two ways, explicit or dynamically generated, of introducing this decay channel have very different amplitudes. Nevertheless, through interference with the other terms of the model we are able to reproduce the same phenomenology as models with explicit consideration of the $\epsilon$ meson.

Multipole analysis of pion photoproduction based on fixed t dispersion relations and unitarity

1997

We have analysed pion photoproduction imposing constraints from fixed t dispersion relations and unitarity. Coupled integral equations for the S and P wave multipoles were derived from the dispersion relations and solved by the method of Omnes and Muskhelishvili. The free parameters were determined by a fit to the most recent data for \pi^{+} and \pi^{0} production on the proton as well as \pi^{-} production on the neutron, in the energy We have analysed pion photoproduction imposing constraints from fixed t dispersion relations and unitarity.
