N*(1920)(1/2+) STATE IN THE $NK\bar{K}$ SYSTEM
2013
We study the three body $N \bar{K} K$ system by using the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equations, taking the interaction between $N$ and $\bar{K}$, $N$ and $K$, and $\bar{K}$ and $K$ from the chiral unitary approach. Our results suggest that a $N\bar{K}K$ hadron state, with spin-parity $J^P=1/2^+$, and mass around 1920 MeV, can be formed.
Standard model higher order corrections to the WW gamma/WWZ vertex
1995
Using the S--matrix pinch technique we obtain to one loop order gauge independent $\gamma W^-W^+$ and $Z W^-W^+$ vertices in the context of the standard model, with all incoming momenta off--shell. We show that the vertices so constructed satisfy simple QED--like Ward identities. These gauge invariant vertices give rise to expressions for the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole form factors of the $W$ gauge boson, which, unlike previous treatments, satisfy the crucial properties of infrared finiteness and perturbative unitarity.
Kinetically Modified Non-Minimal Chaotic Inflation
2015
We consider Supersymmetric (SUSY) and non-SUSY models of chaotic inflation based on the phi^n potential with 2<=n<=6. We show that the coexistence of a nonminimal coupling to gravity, fR=1+cR phi^(n/2), with a kinetic mixing of the form fK=cK fR^m can accommodate values of the spectral index, ns, and the tensor-to-scalar ratio, r, favored by the Bicep2/Keck Array and Planck results for 0<=m<=4 and 2.5x10^(-4)<=rRK=cR/cK^{n/4}<=1, where the upper limit is not imposed for n=2. Inflation can be attained for subplanckian inflaton values with the corresponding effective theories retaining the perturbative unitarity up to the Planck scale.
Gauge-independent approach to resonant transition amplitudes
1996
We present a new gauge-independent approach to resonant transition amplitudes with nonconserved external currents, based on the pinch technique method. In the context of $2\to 2$ and $2\to 3$ scattering processes, we show explicitly that the analytic results derived respect $U(1)_{em}$ gauge symmetry and do not depend on the choice of the $SU(2)_L$ gauge fixing. Our analytic approach treats, on equal footing, fermionic as well as bosonic contributions to the resummed gauge boson propagators, does not contain any residual space-like threshold terms, shows the correct high-energy unitarity behaviour, admits renormalization, and satisfies a number of other required properties, including the op…
Semi-Lorentz invariance, unitarity, and critical exponents of symplectic fermion models
2007
We study a model of N-component complex fermions with a kinetic term that is second order in derivatives. This symplectic fermion model has an Sp(2N) symmetry, which for any N contains an SO(3) subgroup that can be identified with rotational spin of spin-1/2 particles. Since the spin-1/2 representation is not promoted to a representation of the Lorentz group, the model is not fully Lorentz invariant, although it has a relativistic dispersion relation. The hamiltonian is pseudo-hermitian, H^\dagger = C H C, which implies it has a unitary time evolution. Renormalization-group analysis shows the model has a low-energy fixed point that is a fermionic version of the Wilson-Fisher fixed points. T…
Unitarity of Minkowski nonlocal theories made explicit
2021
In this work we explicitly show that the perturbative unitarity of analytic infinite derivative (AID) scalar field theories can be achieved using a modified prescription for computing scattering amplitudes. The crux of the new prescription is the analytic continuation of a result obtained in the Euclidean signature to the Minkowski external momenta. We intensively elaborate an example of a non-local $\phi^4$ model for various infinite derivative operators. General UV properties of amplitudes in non-local theories are discussed.
Gauge invariance and unstable particles.
1995
A gauge-independent approach to resonant transition amplitudes with nonconserved external currents is presented, which is implemented by the pinch technique. The analytic expressions derived with this method are $U(1)_{em}$ invariant, independent of the choice of the gauge-fixing parameter, and satisfy a number of required theoretical properties, including unitarity. Although special attention is paid to resonant scatterings involving the $\gamma WW$ and $ZWW$ vertices in the minimal Standard Model, our approach can be extended to the top quark or other unstable particles appearing in renormalizable models of new physics.
Finite Quantum Gravity Amplitudes: No Strings Attached
2020
We study the gravity-mediated scattering of scalar fields based on a parameterisation of the Lorentzian quantum effective action. We demonstrate that the interplay of infinite towers of spin zero and spin two poles at imaginary squared momentum leads to scattering amplitudes that are compatible with unitarity bounds, causal, and scale-free at trans-Planckian energy. Our construction avoids introducing non-localities or the massive higher-spin particles that are characteristic in string theory.
Precision mass measurements for nuclear astro- and neutrino physics
2012
Nuclear masses are indispensable ingredients in numerous physics applications ranging from nuclear structure physics, where, e.g., the shell closures and nucleon correlation energies can be studied by accurate mass measurements, via the nuclear astrophysics, where the masses of nuclei far from the valley of β-stability determine the pathways of, e.g., rp-and r-processes of nucleosynthesis in stars, to tests of the standard model and fundamental interactions, where, e.g., the very-accurate masses of parent and superallowed β-decay daughter nuclei serve as one of inputs for the checking of the unitarity of the CKM quark-mixing matrix. In this review we focus on recent direct mass measurements…
Observation of a unitary cusp in the thresholdγp→π0preaction
1997
A rigorous multipole analysis of the recent $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}p$ cross-section measurement is presented. The data were taken using the photon spectrometer TAPS at the tagged photon beam of the Mainz microtron. The $s$ and $p$ wave multipoles were extracted using minimal model assumptions. The predicted unitary cusp for the $s$-wave multipole ${E}_{0+}$ due to the two step $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}n\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}p$ reaction was observed. The results are consistent with one-loop chiral perturbation theory calculations for which three low-energy constants have been determi…
