Parenting, Peer Relationships, Academic Self-efficacy, and Academic Achievement: Direct and Mediating Effects

The aim of the present study is to analyze the relation between authoritative and permissive parenting styles with the kinds of adolescent peer relationships (attachment, victimization, or aggression), and of the latter ones, in turn, with academic self-efficacy, and academic performance, in three waves that range from the early-mid adolescence to late adolescence. Five hundred Spanish adolescents, of both sexes, participated in a three-wave longitudinal study in Valencia, Spain. Maģistra darba “Valsts garantēto uzturlīdzekļu sistēmas pilnveidošana” izstrādes mērķis ir analizēt valsts garantēto uzturlīdzekļu sistēmu Latvijā, konstatēt tās nepilnības, kā arī izstādāt priekšlikumus, lai to pilnveidotu. Maģistra darbā izpētīta Latvijas valsts garantēto uzturlīdzekļu sistēma, izpētīta ārvalstu pieredze, kā arī apkopots ekspertu vērtējums, lai izdarītu secinājumus par nepieciešamajām izmaiņām, ar kuru palīdzību būtu iespējams panākt visefektīvāko rezultātu – nodrošināt uzturlīdzekļus visiem Latvijas bērniem, vienlaikus atstājot pēc iespējas mazāku negatīvo ietekmi uz valsts budžetu. A method of desingularization for analytic two-dimensional vector field families

It is well known that isolated singularities of two dimensional analytic vector fields can be desingularized: after a finite number of blowing up operations we obtain a vector field that exhibits only elementary singularities. In the present paper we introduce a similar method to simplify the periodic limit sets of analytic families of vector fields. Although the method is applied here only to reduce to families in which the zero set has codimension at least two, we conjecture that it can be used in general. This is related to the famouss Hibert's problem about planar vector fields.
Spread of tomato yellow leaf curl virus in Sicily: partial displacement of another geminivirus originally present.

The geminivirus Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) was reported for the first time in Italy in 2002. We have followed its spread in Sicily, where Tomato yellow leaf curl Sardinia virus (TYLCSV), another tomato-infecting geminivirus, is endemic and has been causing severe crop losses since 1989. The presence of the two viruses was monitored in the main tomato growing area, the Ragusa province, analyzing samples with yellow leaf curling symptoms. At first (spring-summer 2002) both viruses were always found in mixed infections, but in 2003 and 2004 18-35% of plants were found infected by TYLCV alone and 8-28% by TYLCSV alone, with 41-69% carrying both viruses. Cysticercosis is a parasitic infection caused by the metacestode larval stage (cysticercus) of Taenia solium. In humans, cysticercosis may infect the central nervous system and cause neurocysticercosis, which is responsible for over 50,000 deaths per year worldwide and is the major cause of preventable epilepsy cases, especially in low-income countries. Cysticercosis infection is endemic in many less developed countries where poor hygiene conditions and free-range pig management favor their transmission. In particular muscle strengthening exercise, targeting the characteristic loss of muscle strength present in knee OA, is a key factor for the beneficial effects reported for exercise therapy.
