PAN-EX: a pooled analysis of two trials of neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by chemoradiotherapy in MRI-defined, locally advanced rectal cancer

This analysis confirms that administering neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) before chemoradiotherapy (CRT) could be a potential option for high-risk, locally advanced rectal cancer. Identification of KRT16 as a target of an autoantibody response in complex regional pain syndrome

Abstract Objective Using a mouse model of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), our goal was to identify autoantigens in the skin of the affected limb. Methods A CRPS-like state was induced using the tibia fracture/cast immobilization model. Metastatic Anterior Chamber Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in a Patient With Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome

Purpose To alert ophthalmologists to the possibility of metastatic anterior chamber intraocular non-Hodgkin lymphoma in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Methods We examined a 19-year-old man with AIDS who had an anterior uveitis with pseudohypopyon and a history of 2 months of malaise. A specimen of the lesion was obtained with a 25-gauge needle for pathologic examination. RESULTS: Systemic exploration showed hepatomegaly. Abdominal computed tomography showed multiple lesions in the liver and spleen. Fine-needle aspiration disclosed a high-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Background Salivary stones are calcified structures most often found in the main duct of the submandibular or parotid salivary gland. They contain of a core surrounded by laminated layers of organic and inorganic material. Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is characterized by lymphoid infiltrates in the portal tracts of the liver and the occurrence of antimitochondrial autoantibodies in serum directed against components of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex and the other alpha-keto acid dehydrogenase complexes. These enzymes are located on the inner mitochondrial membrane. The destruction of the biliary tract in PBC is thought to be mediated by autoreactive liver-infiltrating T cells exerting cytotoxic activity or releasing certain lymphokines. Pharmacokinetic interactions of clozapine and its metabolites N-desmethylclozapine and clozapine N-oxide with the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) fluvoxamine and paroxetine were investigated in a prospective study in schizophrenic patients under steady-state conditions. Thirty patients were treated with clozapine at a target dose of 2.5 to 3.0 mg/kg of body weight. After gradual dose escalation, serum concentrations of clozapine and two metabolites were determined twice at 7-day intervals after steady-state conditions had been reached. Fluvoxamine or placebo in the treatment of panic disorder and relationship to blood concentrations of fluvoxamine.

A six-week double-blind placebo-controlled trial of fluvoxamine was undertaken in 46 patients suffering from panic disorder with or without agoraphobia diagnosed by DSM-III-R guidelines. Average daily dosage of fluvoxamine was 160 mg, with a highest permitted dose of 300 mg/day. Weekly evaluation included a diary in which the number, severity, and duration of full-blown and limited panic attacks and the duration and severity of anticipating fear, CAS, GAS, CGI, HAM-D, adverse effects and the number of capsules not taken were noted. Combining fluvoxamine and clozapine may be a strategy to improve therapeutic effects on negative symptoms in schizophrenic patients.
