The genus Dipsacus is characterized by a remarkable bidirectional flowering sequence and a rare phyllotactic pattern. Considering that flower initiation and flowering sequence may be interconnected, we document the development of the head meristem in Dipsacus fullonum. Our results indicate a gradual change in the geometry of the head meristem beginning with a dome shaped stage, continuing with a remarkable widening in the middle part of the head meristem and ending in a spindle-like form. Guano-Derived Nutrient Subsidies Drive Food Web Structure in Coastal Ponds.

A stable isotope study was carried out seasonally in three coastal ponds (Marinello system, Italy) affected by different gull guano input to investigate the effect of nutrient subsidies on food web structure and dynamics. A marked 15N enrichment occurred in the pond receiving the highest guano input, indicating that gull-derived fertilization (guanotrophication) had a strong localised effect and flowed across trophic levels. The main food web response to guanotrophication was an overall erosion of the benthic pathway in favour of the planktonic. Three of them (F. macrobryoides, F. prionocheilos and F. vitreo-limbatus) are species incertae because the type material for the names not was located (Purssel, 2007). Obtention and characterization of resistant starch from creole faba bean (Vicia faba L. creole) as a promising functional ingredient

Abstract A procedure easy to upscale industrially aimed at obtaining resistant starch (RS) type III (RS-III) was optimized, using a native faba bean from Mexico (Vicia faba L. creole) as RS source for the first time. Pullulanase debranching treatment (6–18 enzyme units (U)/g starch; 0–27 h) and retrogradation process (−30 °C, 2 °C or 20 °C; 1–6 days) was optimized for faba beans. Optimal conditions were determined at 18 U/g for 27 h and a retrogradation process at 20 °C for 6 days.
