Background and aims: Therapy and prognosis of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs) are strictly related to the Ki-67 index, which defines tumor grading. The criterion standard for the assessment of grading of PanNETs is EUS-guided FNA (EUS-FBAFNA) or EUS-guided fine-needle biopsy sampling (EUS-FNB). Because data on diagnostic accuracy of EUS-FNA and EUS-FNB are heterogeneous, we aimed to analyze the variability in concordance between EUS grading and surgical grading. Abstract High molecular mass fractions of lignin and humic compounds in sediments and waters downstream of a pulp mill were characterized applying pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results were compared to those obtained using reversed phase HPLC on the cupric oxide oxidation products. Abstract The effects of UV radiation on the acute toxicity of retene (7-isopropyl-1-methylphenanthrene) to Daphnia magna Straus were studied. Dehydroabietic acid (DHAA) from which retene is formed in the vicinity of pulp and paper industry was also studied. Pyrene, anthracene, and phenanthrene were used as model PAH compounds. The time taken for immobilization (ET50) was monitored under biologically effective UV-B dose rates of 240, 365, 565, and 650 mW m−2 (UV-A and visible light also present). Purpose: To determine the correlation between corneal shape changes and ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) findings at the sclerotomy sites in conventional 20-gauge (G) pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and 25-G transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy (TSV) and to compare the effectiveness of the two surgical methods. Orthotopic bladder cancer xenografts are essential for testing novel therapies and molecular manipulations of cell lines in vivo. Current xenografts rely on tumor cell inoculation by intravesical instillation or direct injection into the bladder wall. Instillation is limited by the lack of cell lines that are tumorigenic when delivered in this manner. An atypical variant of Ewing's sarcoma, located in the left hip of a nine-year-old girl, is discussed at optical, histochemical and electron microscopical level. The endothelial appearing cells seem to play a main role in its histogenesis. Tumoral cells of an undifferentiated blastemic nature show round nuclei and bright lucent cytoplasm, being organized in solid sheets or vascular-like profiles. Alkaline and acid phosphatases are very prominent in all tumoral cells, and some of them also show PAS positive material. Fibro-osteo-cemental lesions of the jaw bones are a heterogeneous group of diseases which present problems in classification. Psammous desmo-osteoblastoma is one of four newly proposed entities (Makek 1983) and has until now been characterized by its light microscopic, clinical and radiological features. On electron microscopy this tumour exhibits fibroblastic (preosteoblastic), osteoblastic and osteocytic cells and a globular mineralization unlike the mineralization of the psammoma bodies.
