Neural Mechanisms Underlying Human Auditory Evoked Responses Revealed By Human Neocortical Neurosolver

2022

Funding Information: This study was supported by National Institutes of Health (Grant Nos. NIBIB RO1 EB022889, NIMH RO1 MH106174). Publisher Copyright: © 2021, The Author(s). Auditory evoked fields (AEFs) are commonly studied, yet their underlying neural mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, we used the biophysical modelling software Human Neocortical Neurosolver (HNN) whose foundation is a canonical neocortical circuit model to interpret the cell and network mechanisms contributing to macroscale AEFs elicited by a simple tone, measured with magnetoencephalography. We found that AEFs can be reproduced by activating the neocortical circuit through a layer specific sequence of feedforwar…

METHOD FOR DETECTING A SONIC IMPRINT OF A THREE-DIMENSIONAL OBJECT AND RELATED APPARATUS

2013

Non invasive method used to detect a “sonic imprint” of three-dimensional objects, particularly suitable for the identification and monitoring of artworks, consisting in acquiring the vibrations caused by a source of elastic waves and using a set of detectors fixed in various predetermined points of the external surface of the object. An apparatus, cheap and simple to utilize, suitable to execute this method, is also described.

The hydrophilie of the larval test of Ascidiae: functional role played by test cells

2012

Ascidian swimming larvae are entirely surrounded by a hyaline extracellular coat, called as tunic or test, on which numerous test cells adhere. The functional role played by test cells in larvae of various ascidian species consists in depositing submicroscopic structures known as ornaments and/or substances of proteoglycan nature in the larval test surface. The deposition of ornaments would render the larval test hydrophilic and thus allow the larvae to swim being immersed in sea water. Ultrastructural investigations reported in literature on larvae of Cionidae and Ascididae families have not evidenced the presence of ornaments in the swimming larval test. For these Ascididae families it ha…

Effects of radiation in accretion regions of classical T Tauri stars

2019

Context. Models and observations indicate that the impact of matter accreting onto the surface of young stars produces regions at the base of accretion columns where optically thin and thick plasma components coexist. Thus, an accurate description of these impacts is necessary to account for the effects of absorption and emission of radiation. Aims. We study the effects of radiation emerging from shock-heated plasma in impact regions on the structure of the pre-shock down-falling material. We investigate whether a significant absorption of radiation occurs and if it leads to a pre-shock heating of the accreting gas. Methods. We developed a radiation hydrodynamics model describing an accreti…

LA TOMOGRAFIA AD ULTRASUONI PER LO STUDIO DIAGNOSTICO DEI BENI CULTURALI

2012

Assessment of bonding defects in FRP reinforced structures via ultrasonic technique

2016

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite systems are widely used for the rehabilitation of concrete structures such as building that need to resist to seismic loads, bridges that have to carry heavier traffic loads. The technique consists in bonding the composite plate to the concrete surface element in order to increase the flexural capacity. A proper attachment of the FRP plate to the concrete surface is necessary for the efficiency of the load transfer between the reinforcement and the substrate. In this work, the quality of composite bonding is characterized through ultrasonic testing. The proposed technique is relative to a time domain analysis of the ultrasonic signals and couples the…

FRP-Substrate bonding quality investigation making use of ultrasonic waves

2016

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite systems are widely used to repair structurally deficient constructions thanks to their good immunity to corrosion, low weight and excellent mechanical properties. The quality of the FRP-substrate interface bond is a crucial parameter affecting the performance of retrofitted structures. In this framework, ultrasonic testing could be used to assess the quality of the bonding [1-2]. In the case of FRP laminates adhesively bonded to roughly inhomogeneous materials, such as concrete, high scattering attenuation occurs due to the presence of heterogeneities. The concrete behaves almost like a perfect absorber generating a considerable number of short-space…

QUEL LABILE CONFINE TRA ARTE E DESIGN

2019
