The ongoing anthropogenically caused ozone depletion and climate change has increased the amount of biologically harmful UV-B radiation, which is detrimental to fish in embryonal stages. The effects of UV-B radiation on the levels and locations of DNA damage manifested as cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs), heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) and p53 protein in newly hatched embryos of pike were examined. Pike larvae were exposed in the laboratory to current and enhanced doses of UV-B radiation. UV-B exposure caused the formation of CPDs in a fluence rate-dependent manner, and the CPDs were found deeper in the tissues with increasing fluence rates. Measurement of the average shape of longitudinal profiles of cosmic-ray air showers at the Pierre Auger Observatory

The profile of the longitudinal development of showers produced by ultra-high energy cosmic rays carries information related to the interaction properties of the primary particles with atmospheric nuclei. In this work, we present the first measurement of the average shower profile in traversed atmospheric depth at the Pierre Auger Observatory. The shapes of profiles are well reproduced by the Gaisser-Hillas parametrization within the range studied, for E>10 17.8 eV .A detailed analysis of the systematic uncertainties is performed using ten years of data and a full detector simulation. Aim. We report a case of congenital true pancreatic cyst with high level of enzymatic activity, rarely seen in young and children which, to the best of our knowledge, rarely has previously been reported. A young girl was admitted to our clinic with a history of abdominal swelling and pain during exercise for many months. A mobile, smooth, non-tender mass was palpated on the left side of the abdomen during physical examination. PURPOSE: to show the relevance of peripheral nerve ultrasound imaging as a supplementary technique in a clinical neurophysiological evaluation. METHODS: peripheral nerves ultrasound (US) examination was performed in patients with a medical history of nerve entrapment and/or post-traumatic neuropathy but with clinical or neurophysiological unusual findings. A 10-18 MHz transducer was used. A study of Type B uncertainties associated with the photoelectric effect in low-energy Monte Carlo simulations

The goal of this manuscript is to estimate Type B uncertainties in absorbed-dose calculations arising from the different implementations in current state-of-the-art Monte Carlo codes of low-energy photon cross-sections (<200 keV). Monte Carlo simulations are carried out using three codes widely used in the low-energy domain: PENELOPE-2018, EGSnrc, and MCNP. Mass energy-absorption coefficients for water, air, graphite, and their respective ratios; absorbed dose; and photon-fluence spectra are considered. Los cítricos son el cultivo más importante a nivel mundial. La elaboración de zumos genera grandes cantidades de residuos de fácil degradación, pero con alto contenido de compuestos bioactivos. La extracción asistida con ultrasonidos es uno de los métodos no-convencionales de extracción con resultados favorables.
