The mid-difference hump in forward-masked intensity discrimination

Forward-masked intensity-difference limens (DLs) for pure-tone standards presented at low, medium, and high levels were obtained for a wide range of masker-standard level differences. At a standard level of 25 dB SPL, the masker had a significant effect on intensity resolution, and the data showed a mid-difference hump: The DL elevation was greater at intermediate than at large masker-standard level differences. Flow cytometric DNA analysis of hepatic tumours on ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspirates

A study was performed on a nonconsecutive series of 51 patients in order to assess the feasibility, reliability, and usefulness of flow cytometric (FCM) DNA analysis of samples obtained from benign and malignant hepatic tumours by means of ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (UG-FNA). Cytological and often histological confirmation of the nature of the lesion was obtained in all cases from an expert pathologist. For FCM DNA analysis in 32 cases, it was also possible to use samples obtained at surgery from the actual tumours. There were no post UG-FNA complications, either early or late. Modeling the impact of soft tissue on axial transmission measurements of ultrasonic guided waves in human radius

Recent in vitro and simulation studies have shown that guided waves measured at low ultrasound frequencies (f=200 kHz) can characterize both material properties and geometry of the cortical bone wall. In particular, a method for an accurate cortical thickness estimation from ultrasound velocity data has been presented. The clinical application remains, however, a challenge as the impact of a layer of soft tissue on top of the bone is not yet well established, and this layer is expected to affect the dispersion and relative intensities of guided modes. Perihepatic lymph nodes and antiviral response in chronic HCV-associated hepatitis.

To identify predictive factors of response to interferon alpha (IFN-alpha) plus ribavirin therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC), the presence of lymphadenopathy (LyA) of the hepatoduodenal ligament and other variables were investigated. A total of 110 patients with histologically proven CHC were enrolled in this study. Ultrasound (US) was performed at the start and end of therapy and 6 months after stopping therapy. A prospective clinical study of polycarboxylate cement in periapical surgery

Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of polycarboxylate cement as retrograde filling material. Design: A prospective clinical study was made of 25 patients subjected to periapical surgery with ultrasound and magnifying loupes, in which polycarboxylate cement was used as retrograde filling material.
