Dopamine receptors (DR) ligands are potential drug candidates for treating neurological disorders including schizophrenia or Parkinson's disease. A novel caryophyllene type sesquiterpene lactone from Asparagus falcatus (Linn.); Structure elucidation and anti-angiogenic activity on HUVECs

Abstract In this study the novel caryophyllene type sesquiterpene lactone (aspfalcolide) has been isolated from the leaves of Asparagus falcatus (Linn.) and characterized by IR, 1D NMR, 2D NMR, EI–MS, HR–ESI–MS and X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis. The aspfalcolide crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group P212121 with a = 6.37360(10), b = 7.6890(2), c = 27.3281(6) A, α = β = γ = 90° and Z = 4. One intermolecular O–H⋯O hydrogen bond enforces these natural molecules to form infinite chains through the crystal. Characterization of monoclonal antibodies generated against bovine and porcine prostacyclin synthase and quantitation of bovine prostacyclin synthase

AbstractMonoclonal antibodies were raised against prostacyclin synthases purified from bovine and porcine aortae, respectively. Two monoclonal antibodies, RS1 and RS2, were purified and characterized. As shown by enzyme activity precipitation and Western blot analysis, in solubilized bovine and porcine aortae microsomes the monoclonal antibodies reacted only with prostacyclin synthase. The monoclonal antibody RS1 cross-reacts with partially purified prostacyclin synthase from human umbilical veins in an ELISA-based assay. None of the antibodies inhibited the enzyme activity. Structure and closure mechanism of the human umbilical artery

The structure of the fully-patent umbilical artery and rearrangement of its structural elements with postnatal closure were examined in 10 centimeter long umbilical cord segments which were double-clamped at different time intervals after delivery. The fully-patent umbilical artery consists of two main layers: an outer layer of circularly arranged smooth muscle cells and an inner layer which shows rather irregularly and loosely arranged cells embedded in abundant metachromatic ground substance. OBJECTIVES: Multiple lines of evidence show the benefits of cacao on inflammation and cardiovascular disease. The relationship between cacao and cancer is less well defined. Cacao contains bioactive compounds with antiangiogenic properties, such as procyanidins and catechins. Clinical concentrations of efavirenz (EFV) reduce cellular proliferation and viability in several human cell lines

Results MTT assays upon 24 h of culture in the presence of the drug revealed reduced viability in the human hepatoma cell line Hep3B (significant for all three concentrations and calculated as 84.59 ± 8.82% decrease for 50 μM EFV), human cervix carcinoma cell line HeLa (71.92 ± 5.49% reduction for 50 μM EFV) and primary Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial cells (HUVEC), (96.76 ± 0.27% reduction for 50 μM EFV).
