First-order linear differential equations whose data are complex random variables: Probabilistic solution and stability analysis via densities

2022

[EN] Random initial value problems to non-homogeneous first-order linear differential equations with complex coefficients are probabilistically solved by computing the first probability density of the solution. For the sake of generality, coefficients and initial condition are assumed to be absolutely continuous complex random variables with an arbitrary joint probability density function. The probability of stability, as well as the density of the equilibrium point, are explicitly determined. The Random Variable Transformation technique is extensively utilized to conduct the overall analysis. Several examples are included to illustrate all the theoretical findings.

Diving into the uncertainties of open innovation: A systematic review of risks to uncover pertinent typologies and unexplored horizons

2023

The open innovation paradigm has created substantial new opportunities for firms in various sectors. However, scholars have long expressed concern that open innovation also entails a dark side, which can result in value co-destruction. This concern highlights the importance of devoting attention to the perils of pursuing open innovation. Existing scholarship has given due credence to these perils by examining various associated risks and uncertainties. We observe that the extant literature is siloed and unorganized, which impedes future research. Positing that an endeavor to organize existing studies may enhance the pace of research in the area, we attempt to address this gap by reviewing t…

Parameters analysis influencing 3D measurement without contact by laser scanner to establish a local correction procedure

2007

International audience; The techniques of measuring without contact by laser scanning allows acquisition of a large number of points, at a very high rate speed ; nevertheless with less precision than the one obtained by classical techniques of measuring with contact. We present in this article the research and the experimental analysis of the influential parameters on the precision of the measure by laser sensor without contact. Firstly, a methodology of correction of the relative uncertainties in the conditions of the measuring laser is presented. Then, we apply it to a typical part and compare the results to those obtained by a classical procedure of measuring with a contact sensor. We fi…

Seismic Behavior of Lisbon Mixed Masonry-RC Buildings With Historical Value: A Contribution for the Practical Assessment

2018

The fact that linear analysis is still the most used procedure in the design engineering offices, studies which addresses issues associated to the estimation of the structural behavior factor values are relevant. In this study, the behavior factor of a particular type of mixed masonry-reinforced concrete buildings in Lisbon is estimated. The typology chosen in this study represents 30% of building stock in Lisbon; these buildings were built between 1930 and 1960 and thus were designed without considering the seismic-design requirements proposed in current codes. The evaluation of the behavior factors was based on the use of nonlinear static analyses, performed in the form of the sensitivity…

Uncertainties and Risks in the Implementation of an E-Learning Information Systems Project in a Higher-Learning Environment: Viewpoints from Estonia

2005

This paper investigates the sorts of risks and uncertainties inherent in implementing an e-learning information systems project in Estonia. The study uses a variation of the Delphi study in eliciting the risk factors or items from experienced top management professionals within the organisation. The main objective of the study is to identify the uncertainties or risks in the implementation of the systems, using the viewpoint of Estonia, which is an emerging economy. The findings of the work indicate that wrong development strategy, staff volatility, change in top management and lack of funding are amongst the top risk factors in implementing e-learning in Estonia. On the other hand, risks …

Uncertainty in environmental and hydrological mathematical modelling

2012

The current state of knowledge regarding uncertainties in urban drainage models is poor. This is in part due to the lack of clarity in the way model uncertainty analyses are conducted and how the results are presented and used. There is a need for a common terminology and a conceptual framework for describing and estimating uncertainties in urban drainage models. Practical tools for the assessment of model uncertainties for a range of urban drainage models are also required to be developed. This paper, produced by the International Working Group on Data and Models, which works under the IWA/IAHR Joint Committee on Urban Drainage, is a contribution to the development of a harmonised framewor…

Robust stabilisation of 2D state-delayed stochastic systems with randomly occurring uncertainties and nonlinearities

2013

This paper is concerned with the state feedback control problem for a class of two-dimensional (2D) discrete-time stochastic systems with time-delays, randomly occurring uncertainties and nonlinearities. Both the sector-like nonlinearities and the norm-bounded uncertainties enter into the system in random ways, and such randomly occurring uncertainties and nonlinearities obey certain mutually uncorrelated Bernoulli random binary distribution laws. Sufficient computationally tractable linear matrix inequality–based conditions are established for the 2D nonlinear stochastic time-delay systems to be asymptotically stable in the mean-square sense, and then the explicit expression of the desired…

Two Remarkably Luminous Galaxy Candidates at z ≈ 10-12 Revealed by JWST

2022

The first few 100 Myr at z > 10 mark the last major uncharted epoch in the history of the universe, where only a single galaxy (GN-z11 at z ≈ 11) is currently spectroscopically confirmed. Here we present a search for luminous z > 10 galaxies with JWST/NIRCam photometry spanning ≈1–5 μm and covering 49 arcmin2 from the public JWST Early Release Science programs (CEERS and GLASS). Our most secure candidates are two MUV ≈ −21 systems: GLASS-z12 and GLASS-z10. These galaxies display abrupt ≳1.8 mag breaks in their spectral energy distributions (SEDs), consistent with complete absorption of flux bluewards of Lyα that is redshifted to =+z12.40.3 0.1and=+z10.40.5 0.4. GIGJ: a crustal gravity model of the Guangdong Province for predicting the geoneutrino signal at the JUNO experiment

2019

Gravimetric methods are expected to play a decisive role in geophysical modeling of the regional crustal structure applied to geoneutrino studies. GIGJ (GOCE Inversion for Geoneutrinos at JUNO) is a 3D numerical model constituted by ~46 x 10$^{3}$ voxels of 50 x 50 x 0.1 km, built by inverting gravimetric data over the 6{\deg} x 4{\deg} area centered at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) experiment, currently under construction in the Guangdong Province (China). The a-priori modeling is based on the adoption of deep seismic sounding profiles, receiver functions, teleseismic P-wave velocity models and Moho depth maps, according to their own accuracy and spatial resolution. …
