Method effects associated with negatively and positively worded items on the 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12): results from a cross-sect…

2019

This study focused on the examination of the latent structure underlying the responses to the GHQ-12, considering the role of method effects associated with both, PW and NW items, and using two alternative parameterisations of the CFA measurement models. What should first be noted is that the studies that have included method effects in the measurement model of the GHQ-12 have been more the exception than the rule in previous research into the factor structure of this questionnaire. According to the results of the present study, we conclude that the GHQ-12 factor structure is best characterised by introducing latent method factors that capture both the method effects associated with NW and …

A Feature Set Decomposition Method for the Construction of Multi-classifier Systems Trained with High-Dimensional Data

2013

Data mining for the discovery of novel, useful patterns, encounters obstacles when dealing with high-dimensional datasets, which have been documented as the "curse" of dimensionality. A strategy to deal with this issue is the decomposition of the input feature set to build a multi-classifier system. Standalone decomposition methods are rare and generally based on random selection. We propose a decomposition method which uses information theory tools to arrange input features into uncorrelated and relevant subsets. Experimental results show how this approach significantly outperforms three baseline decomposition methods, in terms of classification accuracy.

Applicability of the Poisson distribution to model the data of the German Children's Cancer Registry.

1995

Since 1980 the German Children's Cancer Registry has documented all childhood malignancies in the Federal Republic of Germany. Various statistical procedures have been proposed to identify municipalities or other geographic units with increased numbers of malignancies. Usually the Poisson distribution, which requires the malignancies to be distributed homogeneously and uncorrelated, is applied. Other discrete statistical distributions (so-called cluster distributions) like the generalized or compound Poisson distributions are applicable more generally. In this paper we present a first explorative approach to the question of whether it is necessary to use one of these cluster distributions t…

Two new sum-of-sinusoids-based methods for the efficient generation of multiple uncorrelated rayleigh fading waveforms

2009

Article from the journal: IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications Publisher's version: http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/twc.2009.080769 This paper deals with the design of a set of multiple uncorrelated Rayleigh fading waveforms. The Rayleigh fading waveforms are mutually uncorrelated, but each waveform is correlated in time. The waveforms are generated by using the deterministic sum-of-sinusoids (SOS) channel modeling principle. Two new closed-form solutions are presented for the computation of the model parameters. Analytical and numerical results show that the resulting deterministic SOS-based channel simulator fulfills all main requirements imposed by the reference model with given correl…

Modelling of Non-WSSUS Channels with Time-Variant Doppler and Delay Characteristics

2018

This paper deals with the modelling of non-wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (non-WSSUS) channels in which the angles of arrival (AOAs), Doppler frequencies, and propagation delays vary with time. Starting from a geometrical model in which the mobile station (MS) travels along a predefined path with time-variant velocity, it is shown how the parameters of the non-WSSUS model can be computed analytically assuming that the scatterers are fixed. One of the key results of our analysis is that the time-variant Doppler frequencies and the time-variant propagation delays of WSSUS and non-WSSUS channels are connected by a fundamental relationship. Furthermore, the time-variant channel t…

Benevolent and corrective humor, life satisfaction, and broad humor dimensions : extending the nomological network of the BenCor across 25 countries

2020

Indexación: Scopus. Benevolent and corrective humor are two comic styles that have been related to virtue, morality, and character strengths. A previous study also supported the viability of measuring these two styles with the BenCor in 22 countries. The present study extends the previous one by including further countries (a total of 25 countries in 29 samples with N = 7813), by testing the revised BenCor (BenCor-R), and by adding two criterion measures to assess life satisfaction and four broad humor dimensions (social fun/entertaining humor, mockery, humor ineptness, and cognitive/reflective humor). As expected, the BenCor-R showed mostly promising psychometric properties (internal consi…

Measurement of correlations between pions from different W's in e+e- → W+W- events

1997

Correlations between pions from different W's in e(+)e(-) --> W+W- events are studied using data collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP running at a centre-of-mass energy of 172 GeV in 1996. At the present level of statistics, no enhancement of the correlation function above that expected from a pair of uncorrelated W's is observed at small values of the four-momentum difference of the pions. Correlation of primary relaxations and high-frequency modes in supercooled liquids. I. Theoretical background of a nuclear magnetic resonance experim…

2006

The question regarding a possible correlation of the time scales of primary and secondary relaxations in supercooled liquids is formulated quantitatively. It is shown how this question can be answered using spin-lattice relaxation weighted stimulated-echo experiments, which are presented in an accompanying paper [A. Nowaczyk, B. Geil, G. Hinze, and R. Böhmer, Phys. Rev. E 74, 041505 (2006)]. General theoretical expressions relevant for the description of such experiments in the presence of correlation effects are derived. These expressions are analyzed by Monte Carlo integration for various correlation scenarios also including exchange processes, which are the hallmark of dynamical heteroge…

Chiral symmetry and meson exchange approach to hypernuclear decay

2000

We take an approach to the $\Lambda$ nonmesonic weak decay in nuclei based on the exchange of mesons under the guidelines of chiral Lagrangians. The one pion and one kaon exchange are considered, together with the exchange of two pions, either correlated, leading to an important scalar-isoscalar exchange ($\sigma$-like exchange), or uncorrelated (box diagrams). A drastic reduction of the OPE results for the $\Gamma_n/\Gamma_p$ ratio is obtained and the new results are compatible with all present experiments within errors. The absolute rates obtained for different nuclei are also in fair agreement with experiment.

ScalarΛNandΛΛinteraction in a chiral unitary approach

2006

We study the central part of the {lambda}N and {lambda}{lambda} potential by considering the correlated and uncorrelated two-meson exchange in addition to the {omega} exchange contribution. The correlated two-meson exchange is evaluated within a chiral unitary approach. We find that a short-range repulsion is generated by the correlated two-meson potential, which also produces an attraction in the intermediate-distance region. The uncorrelated two-meson exchange produces a sizable attraction in all cases that is counterbalanced by the {omega} exchange contribution.
