Perturbative unitarity constraints on gauge portals

2017

Abstract Dark matter that was once in thermal equilibrium with the Standard Model is generally prohibited from obtaining all of its mass from the electroweak phase transition. This implies a new scale of physics and mediator particles to facilitate dark matter annihilation. In this work, we focus on dark matter that annihilates through a generic gauge boson portal. We show how partial wave unitarity places upper bounds on the dark gauge boson, dark Higgs and dark matter masses. Outside of well-defined fine-tuned regions, we find an upper bound of 9 TeV for the dark matter mass when the dark Higgs and dark gauge bosons both facilitate the dark matter annihilations. In this scenario, the uppe…

Search for the Higgs Boson in theH→WW→lνjjDecay Channel inppCollisions ats=7  TeVwith the ATLAS Detector

2011

A search for a Higgs boson has been performed in the H -> WW -> l nu jj channel in 1.04 fb(-1) of pp collision data at root s = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events is observed over the expected background and limits on the Higgs boson production cross section are derived for a Higgs boson mass in the range 240 GeV WW production is 3.1 pb, or 2.7 times the standard model prediction.

SU(6) Grand Unification of 3-3-1 Model

2018

We discuss a sequential variant of the \(\mathrm { SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times U(1)_X}\) model which fits within a minimal SU(6) grand unification. Interestingly, this minimal SU(6) embedding can allow a \(\mathrm { SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times U(1)_X}\) symmetry breaking scale within the reach of LHC and with seesaw-type neutrino masses.

Search for a Standard Model Higgs Boson inWH→ℓvbb¯inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2009

We present a search for a standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a W boson using 2.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity of pp collision data taken at square root s = 1.96 TeV. Limits on the Higgs boson production rate are obtained for masses between 100 and 150 GeV/c(2). Through the use of multivariate techniques, the analysis achieves an observed (expected) 95% confidence level upper limit of 5.6 (4.8) times the theoretically expected production cross section for a standard model Higgs boson with a mass of 115 GeV/c(2).

Flavor Physics in SUSY Grand Unified Theories

2007

Within Supersymmetric Grand Unified theories with soft breaking terms arising at the Planck scale, it is generally possible to link Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) and CP violating processes occurring in the leptonic and hadronic sectors. So, a correlated analysis of low-energy observables in the leptonic and hadronic sectors, can provide indications of the existence of a Grand Unified theory at high energies. We show how bounds on leptonic FCNC involving the third generation translate into constraints on FCNC B decays. Moreover, we show that, besides FCNC transitions, also lepton-flavor (LF) universality tests in M l 2 decays (with M = π , K , B ), offer a unique opportunity to stud…

Structure and prospects of the simplest SO(10) GUTs

2012

We recapitulate the latest results on the class of the simplest SO(10) grand unified models in which the GUT-scale symmetry breaking is triggered by an adjoint Higgs representation. We argue that the minimal survival approximation traditionally used in the GUT- and seesaw-scale estimates tends to be blind to very interesting parts of the parameter space in which some of the intermediate-scale states necessary for non-supersymmetric unification of the SM gauge couplings can be as light as to leave their imprints in the TeV domain. The stringent minimal-survival-based estimates of the B-L scale are shown to be relaxed by as much as four orders of magnitude, thus admitting for a consistent imp…

Towards a New Minimal SO(10) Unification

2012

We argue that non-supersymmetric SO(10) models based on a renormalizable Higgs sector in which spontaneous symmetry breaking is triggered by the VEVs of a 45-dimensional adjoint and a 126-dimensional tensor representations can provide a potentially realistic yet relatively simple framework for a future robust estimate of the proton lifetime. Following closely the work Phys.Rev.D85, 095014 (2012), arXiv: 1202.0807 [hep-ph] we comment on the gauge unification constraints on the B-L breaking scale and show that there are several regions in the parameter space of the minimal model where the seesaw scale in the phenomenologically favoured ballpark of around 10^13-14 GeV is consistently supported.

Implications of parity violation in atoms for gauge theories

1977

The knowledge to be gained on neutral currents from parity-violating observables in heavy atoms is studied. After isolating the relevant couplings, the major part of the analysis is done within the framework ofSU 2 ⊗U 1 unified gauge theories of weak and electromagnetic interactions. The leptonic and hadronic sectors of these models are studied separately, by means of the available information from neutrino physics, to impose restrictions on the mass of the neutral intermediate boson and on the unification angle. The observable in atoms, which provides a link between the two sectors, is found to be powerful in discriminating among models.
