This article deals with the transformations occurred in the government of refugees in the Mediterranean since 2013, when the military-humanitarian operation Mare Nostrum was launched by the European Union. The paper analyses how military and humanitarian practices are entangled in governing refugees and develops the notion of military-humanitarianism. Legal clinics in Europe: for a commitment of higher education in social justice

This publication (formally an article, de facto a book) is a wide inquiry on legal clinical education in Europe. It was sponsored by and presented in European Parliament (ARDI intergroup). In the first chapter over a hundred clinical legal programs, spread in all the Union territories, are fully monitored and examined. The second chapter presents a qualitative analysis through the interviews with some protagonists of the “movement” of legal clinical education. In fact, since the comprehensive vision of this phenomenon, we can conclude that it is a “movement” because we are not simply in the presence of a proliferation of isolated experience. Such reasoning, however, is not the specific aim of this paper. Nell’autunno del 2014 la Corte Europea dei Diritti Umani ha emanato due sentenze (Sharifi et al c. Italia e Grecia, n. 16643/09, e Tarakhel c. Svizzera, n. 29217/12), che riguardano entrambe, seppure da diverse angolazioni, il complesso rapporto che intercorre tra lo Stato italiano e il diritto d’asilo. Le critiche riguardanti il deficit democratico dell'UE si sono concentrate sull'assenza di un demos europeo e sui limiti intrinseci degli assetti istituzionali comunitari. Recentemente il dibattito è stato rinvigorito da due approcci al problema che sfidano le basi su cui poggiano queste argomentazioni convenzionali.
