2020

Background The new coronavirus called COVID-19 originated in the city of Wuhan, China and has currently spread to different continents, leading the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a "pandemic". Therefore, the aim of this review was to present a new proposal for a care protocol in Peruvian Dentistry: Provisional review of the diagnosis, treatment, epidemiological characteristics, routes of transmission and recommendations of COVID-19. Material and methods A search of digital scientific literature was made in the databases: Science Direct, Pubmed and Google Scholar. The Boolean operators AND, OR and NOT: "Covid-19" "Dental" "Routes of transmission. They were included Scientific art…

COVID-19, A new challenge in the dental practice

2021

Background This review was conducted in order to learn the latest information about how to prevent cross-infection of COVID-19 in dentistry. The aim of this study is offer a clinical protocol to reduce the risk of infection of COVID-19 in dental settings. Material and methods We carried out a review based on the PRISMA guide (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). We used the following three databases: PubMed, Embase and Scopus. The search strategy was performed in the three databases applying the search terms "COVID-19 AND dental", "COVID-19 AND dentistry", selecting human studies published from November 2019 to May 2020. English publications regarding COVID-1…

Speculation on whether a vaccine against cryptosporidiosis is a reality or fantasy

1999

In this paper the authors question whether the development of a vaccine against cryptosporidiosis could be taken into consideration. The necessity and feasibility of such a vaccine for human and veterinary application is discussed. Developmental stages within the life cycle of the parasite that might act as possible targets for vaccine development are summarised, as well as the target antigens offered by molecular biology and immunology studies. Vaccination trials against cryptosporidiosis carried out so far, including the active and passive immunisation approach, are also overviewed. It seems that with respect to a Cryptosporidium vaccine two target groups can be considered: children of th…

Expression of B-Cell Activating Factor Enhances Protective Immunity of a Vaccine against Pseudomonas aeruginosa

2009

ABSTRACT B-cell activating factor (BAFF), a member of the TNF family, is a potent cytokine with stimulatory effects on B and T cells. To evaluate the potential of transient overexpression of BAFF to enhance vaccine immunogenicity, a replication-deficient adenovirus expressing full-length murine BAFF (AdBAFF) was tested in a mouse vaccine model against Pseudomonas aeruginosa . When coadministered with heat-killed P. aeruginosa , AdBAFF mediated a significant increase in anti- P. aeruginosa- specific serum and lung mucosal antibodies and resulted in improved protection against a lethal respiratory challenge with P. aeruginosa . This effect was independent of the site of administration of AdBA…

2021

espanolPsychosocial interventional approaches in reducing intergroup biases can be divided into two areas: intragroup and intergroup. The former includes work with counterstereotypespecimens (Plant et al., 2009), strategies based on cognitive dissonance (Festinger, 1957, cited in Rodriguez, 2019) and the promotion of empathy (Galinsky & Moskowitz, 2000; Stephan & Finlay, 1999). Intergroup strategies are those based on the contact hypothesis (Allport, 1954, cited in Rodriguez, 2019) and those based on the theory of social categorization or sociocognitive strategies (Tajfel & Turner, 1979). The research was ascribed to the interventional research model proposed by Rothman and Thomas (1994), c…

The psychological impact of COVID-19 on people suffering from dysfunctional eating behaviours: a linguistic analysis of the contents shared in an onl…

2021

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spread several months ago from China and it is now a global pandemic. The experience of lockdown has been an undesirable condition for people with mental health problems, including eating disorders. The present study has the aim of understanding the impact of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic on people with selfreported disordered eating behaviours. A linguistic analysis was carried out with regard to the online posts and comments published by 1971 individuals (86% women) in a Facebook online community focusing on EDs during the lockdown. A total of 244 posts and 3603 comments were collected during the 56 days of lockdown (from the 10th of March…

EPA-1417 – Migration history and first episode psychosis: Results from EUGEI project- Italy

2014

The excess of psychosis among migrants and ethnic minorities is a well defined phenomenon in North Europe, while it should be still demonstrated in south Europe. Because of the variation in prevalence and distribution of risk factors in different national contexts, similar studies in different countries are needed to test the hypotheses and to ensure the generalizability of the findings. Moreover, available studies have been mostly focused on risk factors of psychosis during the post migration phase (such as ethnic fragmentation, unemployment, etc) and among well established ethnic minorities (second and further generations of migrants). In Italy, first generation migrants are still the lar…

Childhood trauma and substance use underlying psychosis: a systematic review

2020

[EN] Background: Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) are mental diseases caused by a combination of genetic susceptibility and a number of environmental factors. Among these factors, the role of traumatic events suffered in childhood, as well as that of substance use, have been of particular research interest. Objectives: To conduct a systematic review to clarify whether there is an interaction between childhood trauma and substance use related to the diagnosis or symptoms of SSD. It was also the objective of this review to collate the associations that may exist between the three variables of the study (trauma, substance use and psychosis). Methods: We conducted a systematic search resu…
