Livet som toppidrettsutøvere : langrennsløperes tanker og refleksjoner

2011

Usage and acceptance of Moringa stenopetala in the diet in Ethiopia

2012

Masteroppgave i folkehelsevitenskap- Universitetet i Agder, 2012 The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of a tailored and costeffective telephone and (e)mail based physical activity intervention on blood pressure in a group of inactive adults aged 40-55 years. Furthermore it was of some interest to investigate the effect of aerob capasity and body composition on blood pressure. This master thesis consists of one article and a written assignment. Masteroppgave i folkehelsevitenskap- Universitetet i Agder, 2012 Background Physical inactivity is a leading risk factor for morbidity and mortality. The trend has become a major public health problem and burden on society, both economic and social are high. In order to monitor a population's health the traditionally measured parameters are birth-, mortality- and morbidity rates in the population. In recent years, an increased focus has been on individual’s subjective experience of his or her health. Existing research shows that monitoring self-perceived health can provide good information about populations sick leave, future morbidity and mortality. Physically inactive individuals report l…

Child poverty in a Scandinavian welfare context - from children's point of view

2011

Published version of an article published in the journal: Child Indicators Research. Also available from the publisher at: http;//dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12187-010-9092-0 The focus for this article is child poverty in a Nordic welfare state context. With data from two qualitative studies from Sweden and Norway, we discuss child poverty from the children's point of view, in the framework of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, articles 27 and 28. In article 27, food, housing and clothing are mentioned as particularly important for an adequate standard of living. In poverty studies where children's voices are being heard there has been little focus on these necessities. We find that a fe…

Democracy Squared: Designing On-Line Political Communities to Accommodate Conflicting Interests

2005

Published version of an article published in Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems, 17 (2), 133-168. Also available from the publisher at: http://aisel.aisnet.org/sjis/vol17/iss2/5. On-line political communities, such as the Norwegian site Demokratitorget (Democracy Square), are often designed according to a set of un-reflected assumptions about the political interests of their potential members. In political science, democracy is not taken as given in this way, but can be represented by different models which characterize different relationships between politicians and the citizens they represent. This paper uses quantitative and qualitative content analysis to analyze the communicat…

Our main focus is on examples of measures municipalities in three Norwegian inter-municipality regions so far have developed with respect to the Cooperation reform which will be implemented from spring 2012. By comparing and contrasting this three regions, with different history and adjustment patterns, our aim i…

Cytokines and Toll-Like Receptors in the Immune Response to Influenza Vaccination

2014

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are involved in immunogenicity. However, little information is available on the role of TLRs in the immune response to vaccination against influenza virus. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between the immunogenic response to influenza vaccine and the presence of soluble forms of TLRs and selected cytokines in the serum. There were two groups of subjects participating in the main protocol of the study: 55 chronically hemodialyzed patients (Group A) and 55 healthy volunteers (Group B) participated in the study. Both groups were vaccinated against influenza using a subunit Agrippal vaccine. The concentrations of human TNF-α, IL-1β/IL-1F2, IL-6, an…

Initiation of adaptive immune responses by transcutaneous immunization.

2007

The development of new, effective, easy-to-use and lower-cost vaccination approaches for the combat against malignant and infectious diseases is a pre-eminent need: cancer is a leading cause of morbidity in the Western World; there are numerous pathogenic diseases for which we still have no protective or therapeutic cure; and the financial limitations of developing countries to fight these diseases. In this mini-review we focus on transcutaneous immunization (TCI), a relatively new route for antigen delivery. TCI protocols appear to be particularly promising by gaining access to skin resident APC, which are highly efficient for the initiation of humoral and/or cellular immune responses. Con…
