Attitudes toward technological resources in the classroom of the future teachers

2015

The aim of this study is to analyze attitudes future teachers towards technological resources in the classroom. We have considered three dimensions for analysis, the practice in the classroom, student learning and the valuation that future teachers as make their own attitude technological resources. For the statistical analysis used descriptive techniques; t test for comparison of independent groups, and univariate analysis of covariance (ANOVA). The results indicate that attitudes is positive, but we can see that there are some significant differences in gender respects to some of the issues raised.

Endoureterotomy with the Lovaco technique for treatment of ureterointestinal strictures: outcomes in an experienced center and factors associated wit…

2021

INTRODUCTION The study aimed to present the outcomes of an endoureterotomy series using the Lovaco technique for the treatment of ureterointestinal strictures. Factors influencing the success or failure of this technique were also determined. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data were collected from all endoureterotomies for ureterointestinal strictures performed in a single-center between 2017 and 2020. Clinical variables and characteristics of the stricture were recorded in each case, and success was defined as the complete resolution of ureterohydronephrosis. Univariate analysis was used to correlate the variables recorded with procedural success or failure. RESULTS A total of 25 patients were recr…

Predictors of mortality in COPD patients after hospitalization due to an exacerbation

2019

Aim: Identify factors related to mortality at 6 months after hospitalization by an acute COPD exacerbation (AECOPD). Method: We performed a 12-month prospective, observational study (July 2017-June 2018) that included COPD patients admitted by an AECOPD. Sociodemographic data, comorbidities, functional and clinical parameters were collected. Mortality at 6 months of admission was considered the end point. Results: 278 consecutive patients were enrolled, of whom 48 (16.2%) died during 6 months after AECOPD. Univariate analysis showed that age (p Conclusions: In COPD patients, Barthel Index, grade of dyspnea and previous hospitalizations are independent risk factors for mortality at 6 months,…

258 Helicobacter Pylori Infection in Allergic Children

2010

Background and aims: Studies have suggested that Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection could be considered as a protective factor against development of allergic illnesses. The goal of our study was to compare the prevalence of H. pylori infection in allergic patients and children without allergy. Methods: The total patient sample consisted of 147 children aged 1-10 yrs (mean age 5.2): 58 children had allergy diagnosis and 89 were healthy children or children with minor health problems. Parents were asked to bring a faecal samples of the child and to fill out a questionnaire (demographic data, socio-economical factors). Presence of active H. pylori infection was detected by stool antigen…

Oral and maxillofacial lesions in older individuals and associated factors: A retrospective analysis of cases retrieved in two different services.

2019

Background Studies on the oral and maxillofacial lesions (OMLs) in older people usually assess data of laboratory services and data from oral medicine clinic have been poorly described. The aim of this study was to describe and to compare OMLs in older individuals considering two data sources, besides to assess associated factors with the three most frequent lesions. Material and Methods A retrospective study was conducted with individuals aged 60 years or older. Data of individuals and lesions reported in both services were collected. Univariate analysis was used to test the association between the occurrence of the lesion and the independent variables. The level of significance was set at…

IL28B and PNPLA3 Polymorphisms Affect Histological Liver Damage in Patients with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

2012

Background & Aims: Genetic background may affect liver damage in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The main outcomes of the study were to assess whether IL28B rs12979860 and rs8099917 polymorphisms, together with PNPLA3 rs738409 C>G polymorphism, are associated with lobular inflammation and fibrosis, in NAFLD patients. Methods: One hundred sixty consecutive NAFLD patients were assessed by liver biopsy (Kleiner score); anthropometric, and biochemical and metabolic features were included. IL28B rs12979860 C>T, IL28B rs8099917 G>C, and PNPLA3 rs738409 C>G single nucleotide polymorphisms were tested. Results: Seventy-four (46.2%) patients had IL28B rs12979860 CC polymorph…

Tranexamic acid in cardiac surgery: Are low doses enough?

2020

OBJECTIVES Tranexamic acid is used to prevent hyperfibrinolysis and reduce postoperative bleeding and blood transfusions in on-pump cardiac surgery. We evaluate the efficacy of low or high dose tranexamic acid in a prospective cohort study conducted in Valencia. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 427 patients were recruited between January 2019 and January 2020, 207 in the Hospital General Universitario (low dose [LD]) and 220 in the Hospital Universitario y Politecnico La Fe (high dose [HD] and intermediate dose [ID]). We recorded the presence of hyperfibrinolysis on rotational thromboelastometry, intra- and postoperative administration of blood products, chest tube output within the first 1…

High level of plasma estradiol as a new predictor of ischemic arterial disease in older postmenopausal women: the three-city cohort study.

2012

Background Despite evidence that estrogens may be involved in atherothrombosis, the role of endogenous sex steroid hormones in ischemic arterial disease among postmenopausal women remains uncertain. Methods and Results In the Three‐City prospective cohort study of subjects (n=9294) >65 years of age, we investigated the association of total 17β‐estradiol, bioavailable 17β‐estradiol, and total testosterone with the 4‐year incidence of ischemic arterial disease among postmenopausal women who did not use any hormone therapy. We designed a case–cohort study including a random sample of 537 subjects and 106 incident cases of first cardiovascular events. Weighted Cox proportional‐hazards model…

Sensory analysis of Burgundy Pinot noir wines: A comparison of orthonasal and retronasal profiling

1999

Thirty Burgundy Pinot noir wines were evaluated by quantitative descriptive profile by nose (BN) and by mouth (BM) separately, by a trained panel composed of 12 judges. A specific vocabulary of 20 terms was developed. Sensory results were analyzed and compared by univariate and multivariate statistical techniques. Principal component analyses of the mean ratings BN and BM were fairly comparable regarding correlation among variables and the position of the wines. However, five sensory characteristics seem to be more intensely perceived BM, against 6 BN. Panel discrimination of the wines and panel repeatability in the measure were found to be slightly better BN than BM. A further canonical di…

On the accuracy of three statistical softwares

2005

In this paper we compare the accuracy of three packages that are commonly used for statistical calculations: Excel of Microsoft, version XP Edition 2003, Statistica of Statsoft, version 6, and R, an open-source free software, available on the web, version 1.9.0. To assess the accuracy of each software in different statistical areas, we are going to use benchmarks expressly developed for this aim. The obtained results show a superiority of R in comparison with the other two softwares.
