Earth resistance measurements in urban contexts: Problems and possible solutions

2017

Both EN 50522 and IEEE Std. 81 propose the Fall of Potential Method (FPM) to carry out the measurement of the resistance to earth of an Earthing System (ES). However, in urban areas, the recommended distances between the ES and auxiliary electrodes are not easy to respect, due to the presence of buildings and tarmac. Moreover, unknown buried metallic parts, as well as the interconnection among the ESs made by the Distributor System Operator, could modify the earth potential profile of the area, affecting the measurement results. In this paper, the issues that could affect the measurement result if FPM is used in an urban context are presented. A parametric analysis, carried out with Comsol …

"Rational herding in crowdfunding, social preferences under uncertainty, and overplacement in known and unknown tasks: a behavioral approach"

2020

It has been proved in this dissertation how experimental economics continues to be a tool that, as it nourishes theoretical economics (and viceversa), it keeps producing results that are necessary to understand how to articulate social relations which, ultimately, have consequences oneconomic relations. Specifically, Chapter 1 has studied how the dissemination of new information affects crowdfunding markets and the generation of herding behaviour. Specifically, we provide evidence in that such behaviour is rational and could be well moulded through optimal choice under uncertainty with Bayesian review of beliefs. In this sense, the effect of the first sponsors on the agents# behaviour has b…

Congenital myopathy and epidermolysis bullosa due to PLEC variant

2021

Abstract We report on an adult Turkish patient with mild myopathy with a fiber-type disproportion and mitochondrial disorganization caused by genetic variants in the plectin gene (PLEC). Molecular genetic panel testing revealed two homozygous variants in PLEC (NM_000445.4): c.8306C>G (p.Pro2769Arg) and c.7506 + 5C>G (p. ?) that were classified as variants of unknown significance (class 3) following ACMG guidelines for variant classification in genetic diagnostics. A thorough reassessment of the patient revealed mild skin blistering (epidermolysis bullosa simplex, EBS). This illustrates the importance of deep phenotyping of neuromuscular patients.

Is prolonged febrile syndrome associated with reactive thrombocytosis a possible association in the diagnosis of Takayasu’s arteritis? A case report

2021

Takayasu’s arteritis is a rare, systemic, inflammatory vasculitis of large blood vessels with an unknown aetiology that more frequently affects women of childbearing age with progression to stenosis, fibrosis or thrombogenesis. Clinical manifestations are associated either with inflammation of the vascular wall (including fever, myalgia, arthralgia, weight loss) or the development of aneurysms and extensive vascular lesions, which creates challenges for a differential diagnosis. This current report presents the case of a female Caucasian patient, aged 23 years, that presented herself repetitively at the hospital reporting symptoms including fever, productive cough, myalgia associated with …

Fever of unknown origin and anaemia as a form of presentation of a rhabdomyosarcoma

2011

Abstract We report a case of fever of unknown origin, in its classical presentation. A wide range of studies were unrevealing, but finally a positron emission tomography/computed tomography allowed us to establish the diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma in the pelvic region.

Stiffness Estimation and Adaptive Control for Soft Robots

2022
