Mast cells (MCs), which are well known for their effector functions in T(H)2-skewed allergic and also autoimmune inflammation, have become increasingly acknowledged for their role in protection of health. It is now clear that they are also key modulators of immune responses at interface organs, such as the skin or gut. MCs can prime tissues for adequate inflammatory responses and cooperate with dendritic cells in T-cell activation. They also regulate harmful immune responses in trauma and help to successfully orchestrate pregnancy. Background This study aimed to compare the histological and immunohistochemical characteristics of ameloblastomas (AM) and ameloblastic carcinomas (AC). Material and Methods Fifteen cases of AM and 9 AC were submitted to hematoxilin and eosin (H&E) and immunohistochemical analysis with the following antibodies: cytokeratins 5,7,8,14 and 19, Ki-67, p53, p63 and the cellular adhesion molecules CD138 (Syndecan-1), E-cadherin and β-catenin. The mean score of the expression of Ki-67 and p53 labelling index (LIs) were compared between the groups using the t test. A value of p<0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Upes ir vienas no visapdraudētākajām, bet tajā pašā laikā bioloģiski daudzveidīgākajām ekosistēmām pasaulē, līdz ar to ir svarīgi uzlabot vai vismaz saglabāt to labu ekoloģisko stāvokli. Kā viens no pasaulē plaši izmantotajiem ekoloģiskās kvalitātes uzlabošanas instrumentiem ir upju atjaunošana. Latvijā lielākoties tiek īstenota bebru dambju un koku sanesumu izvākšana no upēm, tomēr arvien biežāk tiek īstenotas arī nārsta vietu atjaunošanas un citi lielāki pasākumi. Izstrādātā bakalaura darba mērķis ir novērtēt upju ekoloģiskās kvalitātes uzlabošanas pasākumu efektivitāti, kā indikatoru izmantojot ihtiocenozes. Bakalaura darba ietvaros tika apkopota pieejamā informācija par Latvijas upju atjaunošanas projektu vietām, īstenoto pasākumu mērogu un citiem parametriem. Lai spētu novērtēt ihtiocenozes izmaiņas pēc projektu pasākumu īstenošanas, tika izmantoti Pārtikas drošības, dzīvnieku veselības un vides zinātniskā institūta “BIOR” ihtiofaunas esošie monitoringa dati. Papildus veikta zivju uzskaite ar elektrozveju projektu vietās, kurās dati nebija pieejami. Izmaiņu noteikšanai izmantots Latvijas zivju indekss, Šenona daudzveidības indekss un taimiņu/foreļ…
