Students' Understanding of the Special Theory of Relativity and Design for a Guided Visit to a Science Museum

International audience; This paper describes the design of teaching materials that are used as learning tools in school visits to a science museum. An exhibition on the A century of the Special Theory of Relativity, in the Kutxaespacio Science Museum, in San Sebastian (Spain), was used to design a visit for first year engineering students at the university and assess the learning which was achieved. The first part of the paper presents the teaching sequence which was designed to build a bridge between formal teaching and the exhibition visit. Every learner has the right to acquire a good pronunciation, but unfortunately today, phonetics still plays a secondary role to grammar and vocabulary training in the classroom. Furthermore, it is primarily treated from an orthoepic point of view. This contribution presents a contrastive approach to phonetics. It explains why learners have a “foreign accent” and what contrastive pronunciation training should include as well as precisely what contrastive listening, contrastive background knowledge and contrastive exercises mean. It is limited to learners of German as a foreign language with Italian as their mother tongue.

The following paper examines, from a multimodal perspective, a counseling sequence between a teacher and a student in the tenth grade at an Italian high school during a lesson of Extensive Reading in German as a foreign language. After an overview of the state of research on counseling during the lesson and a description of the function of counseling in extensive reading, there follows the presentation of the methodological procedure for the analysis.
