The Influence of the Lotus Flower Theme on the Perception Perception of Contemporary Urban Architecture

We live in the visual culture times, when images continuously and daily are transferring some information. A visual message is also an indispensable element of architecture, in the semantic layer as an aesthetic value, sometimes fulfilling a narrative function by means of a symbol, which is an international visual code. Most of the symbols, hidden in painting, sculpture, or architecture, are elements of nature. The article discusses examples of architecture whose form is based on a lotus flower. Unification of urban landscapes leads to a decrease in the value of aesthetic impressions; therefore, the unique architecture builds the unique identity of the place.

Environmental features in home neighborhood may motivate for higher physical activity, but the role of features around destinations is less known. Some of the lacerations caused by the bombs are still clearly visible in the historic city centre, which has been the subject, since the post-war period, of numerous proposals that have remained in the drawer, images of an ethical and civil responsibility that has remained unheard. Old images of war and maps of ideas intersect in a history only apparently concluded in which they become generators of meaning and also bearers of messages relating to a desire for renewal.

Urban growth, jointed to technical networks, contributes to human pressure on water resources. In the meantime, the water French policy put management of urban development in accordance with catchments and hydrologic dynamics; that makes districts and intermunicipal groupings adopt new areas and action systems. The urban area of Dijon is located in three catchments and above a wide groundwater. This case shows urban water management gives greater place to precariousness and common character of water resources, even if institutional responses mainly concern town planning regulation.

Isolated from its harbour by the submarine base built during World War II, Saint-Nazaire has added to its development over the last two decades, without referring to major European models. An important arts and tourist center has been built around the port zone, close to the German submarine base. The converted military structure, which is situated in an impressive public space, has been endowed with a new sense of identity. It stands out as the main element in the urban regeneration process, focusing on the cultural and tourist character of the programme and aiming to reinforce the relationship between the city and its port.
