The Theory of Change approach aims to clarify the underlying logic of an intervention by first identifying the problem addressed and the desired outcome, and then backwards mapping the actions taken and the expected results and outcomes. In so doing, it aims to simplify the expression of intermediate goals and indicators and provide a common reference for the participants and stakeholders of the intervention itself. This article gathers some reflections and suggestions that have been carried out throughout the workshop “Arquitectura construida y espacio habitado en los poblados de colonizatión de Italia y España” held in Palermo between the 21st and 22nd January 2020. The case studies that are here analysed and compared are Latina (ancient Littoria), in the Lazio region, Italy, and Valdelacalzada, in the Extremadura region, Spain. This contribution starts off from taking account of the crisis in the agricultural sector. This sector has been “trivialised” by erroneous policies and market rules. However, at present the trend is changing: “demand for environment” is increasing, as well as the attempt of taking actions and policies favouring sustainable development.
