Planning Research Ethics

This chapter will discuss why planning researchers of all kinds – faculty, students, consultants – need to be ethically sensitive. The chapter is written against a background of what has been termed an ‘”ethical” turn’ in many disciplines, and an increasing regulation (and bureaucratisation) of planning (and other) research conducted within universities. Ladd (1980,) argues that there are no ethical principles which are specific to any occupation. This paper examines regional differences between EU Member States on climate change, green economy and energy in the context of the Europe 2020 strategy, based on current work undertaken for the ESPON SIESTA project . The strategy is a new key policy based on smart, sustainable and inclusive growth to help EU-27 facing global economic crisis and meeting the new environmental challenges such as energy efficiency, climate change, energy security and green economy. Social Housing in Europe

The debate about the future of social housing in Europe is currently more lively compared to earlier years. The housing demand in general and social housing in particular are intense. They are increasingly worrying the concentration of most of the social housing in the most disadvantaged areas and the low economic levels of tenants living in these apartments. This contribute explores the state of fact of social and urban policies in some European countries, in order to offer an exhaustive framework of the variegated situation.

The article introduces the book Fear, Space and Urban Planning. A Critical Perspective from Southern Europe by S. Tulumello highlighting that the intention and the value of this book is to foreground the more opaque instances of fear in the urban dimension, opaque, i.e. from a mainstream or media perspective, the instances which do not make the news or are taken for granted as part of the routine of public debates. In order to do so, the author adopts a critical perspective on fear and urban planning, raising significant issues and questions about a wider range of theoretical implications and drawing on his research and his experience of living in Southern Europe.

Il contributo esplora il complesso sistema di relazioni esistente tra presenza di popolazione straniera e dinamiche insediative. Se è chiaro che i flussi migratori si concentrano laddove è presente maggiore offerta lavorativa (soprattutto dequalificata) e al contempo laddove le reti sociali stabili e le condizioni di contesto (servizi, assistenza sanitaria, educazione) facilitano le forme di accoglienza (Ambrosini, 2000b), non è altrettanto chiaro in che modo tali presenze si relazionano con le dinamiche di crescita/trasformazione delle città/regioni urbane e che tipo di differenziati problemi (presenze reali e irregolari, contesti urbani e contesti rurali, residenza e servizi) pongono in t…
