Copper binding capacity of root exudates of cultivated plants and associated weeds

International audience; Cu binding to root exudates of two cultivated plants, wheat (Triticum aestivum) and rape (Brassica napus), and two weeds associated with wheat, dog daisy (Matricaria inodora) and cornflower (Centaurea cyanus), was studied in vitro under hydroponic and sterile conditions. Nutrient solutions were prepared with or without P. A MetPLATE microbiological test was used to assess the metal complexing capacity of root exudates. In the P-deficient solutions, no exudation was observed for any of the four plants; consequently, no Cu binding occurred. La Légende dorée de Jacques de Voragine, compilation hagiographique fondée sur l’assemblage de sources hétérogènes, fonctionne également comme un instrument de domestication du temps pour le compilateur, le prédicateur et le lecteur du légendier. Elle tresse ainsi une pluralité d’écritures de l’histoire au sein d’une organisation calendaire, à haut rendement symbolique. Ce lien avec l’appréhension du temps est étudié à travers certains manuscrits où elle se trouve copiée à côté de textes historiographiques.

Tämän kvalitatiivisen tutkielman tavoitteena oli selvittää viimeisen vuosikurssin käyneiden IB-lukiolaisten käsityksiä opiskelusta suomalaisessa IB-lukiossa. Aineiston keruussa käytettiin puolistrukturoituja teemahaastatteluja, ja tutkimusta varten haastateltiin seitsemää suomalaisen IB-lukion oppilasta. Tutkimuskysymykset koostuivat seuraavista aihealueista: IB-lukioon hakeminen ja koulutuksen rakenne, IB-opiskelijaprofiili, englannin kielen rooli koulutuksessa, jatkokoulutus- ja uraodotukset sekä kansainvälisyys. Volatile components of Centaurea calcitrapa L. and Centaurea sphaerocephala L. ssp. sphaerocephala, two Asteraceae growing wild in Sicily

The volatile components of the flowerheads of Centaurea calcitrapa L. (C.c.) and Centaurea sphaerocephala L. ssp. sphaerocephala (C.s.) were obtained by hydrodistillation and identified by GC and GC–MS. Altogether 96 components were identified, 66 in C. calcitrapa and 68 in C. spaerocephala, mostly fatty acids (32.8%, C.c. and 44.2%, C.s.) and hydrocarbons (32.3%, C.c. and 15.9%, C.s.). 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid (15.8%, C.c.) and hexadecanoic acid (30.7%, C.s.) were the most abundant fatty acids; tricosane (8.0%, C.c.) and heptacosane (4.9%, C.s.) were the main hydrocarbons. Abstract Purpose The ecological importance of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in plant acquisition of inorganic and organic sources of nitrogen (N) is not clear. To improve understanding of the plant N nutrition ecology, we tested the effect of intraspecific competition and AMF in plant N source use in growth and N acquisition. Methods Solidago virgaurea was grown in microcosms in a fully factorial experiment under greenhouse conditions. Series of highly polar stilbene (1a–e), diphenylbutadiene (2a–c) and phenylethenylthiophene (3a–c) derivatives were prepared via Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons method with a view to produce new and efficient materials for second harmonic generation (SHG) in the solid-state. The single-crystal X-ray structures of compounds 1–3 reveal extensive polymorphism and a peculiar photodimerization of the 2-chloro-3,4-dimethoxy-4′-nitrostilbene derivative 1a to afford two polymorphs of tetra-aryl cyclobutane 4. Abstract The volatile constituents of the aerial parts of Centaurea cuneifolia Sibth. & Sm. and Centaurea euxina Velen. from Bulgaria were extracted by hydrodistillation and were analyzed. The main components in C. cuneifolia were β-eudesmol (26.5%) and hexadecanoic acid (17.6%). The main components in C. euxina were hexadecanoic acid (20.3%), spathulenol (10.8%) and caryophyllene oxide (6.2%). The chemotaxonomic significances with respect to other previously studied species of the same sections ( Achrolopus and Phalolepis , respectively) are discussed.
