Proteinuria-Microalbuminuria in Renal Damage
2015
Proteinuria (P) usually results from an insult in the glomerular and/or tubular structures of the kidney. It has been considered a marker of risk not only to develop renal insufficiency but also to suffer cardiovascular events, based on prospective studies carried out in the general population as well as in diabetic and hypertensive patients [1]. In fact, proteinuria has been considered a strong marker of risk and an intermediate endpoint during treatment [2, 3].
Maassa maan tavalla? : eettiset ongelmat ja eettinen kuormittavuus ekspatriaattityössä
2015
Tutkimuksessa on tarkasteltu ekspatriaattien ulkomaankomennuksella kokemia eettisiä ongelmia ja niistä aiheutunutta eettistä kuormittavuutta. Ekspatriaatilla viitataan ulkomaille tietyksi ajanjaksoksi joko itse lähteviä tai organisaation puolelta lähetettäviä työntekijöitä. Eettistä kuormittavuutta on tutkittu aiemmin suomalaisten johtajien keskuudessa (Huhtala ym., 2011), mutta ekspatriaattien kontekstissa aihe on tutkimuskentässä täysin uusi. Tutkimuksen keskeisenä tavoitteena on eettisen kuormittavuuden teoreettinen ja empiirinen tarkastelu. Teoreettista viitekehystä on pohjustettu Jonesin (1991) eettisen päätöksenteon mallilla, Hobfollin (2001) voimavarojen säilyttämisteorialla ja Ronen…

Fourfold Increase in Pumpkin Yield in Response to Low-Dosage Root Zone Application of Urine-Enhanced Biochar to a Fertile Tropical Soil
2015
A widely abundant and invasive forest shrub, Eupatorium adenophorum, was pyrolyzed in a cost-efficient flame curtain kiln to produce biochar. The resulting biochar fulfilled all the requirements for premium quality, according to the European Biochar Certificate. The biochar was either applied alone or mixed with fresh cow urine (1:1 volume) to test its capacity to serve as slow release fertilizer in a pumpkin field trial in Nepal. Treatments included cow-manure compost combined with (i) urine-only; (ii) biochar-only or (iii) urine-loaded biochar. All materials were applied directly to the root zone at a biochar dry matter content of 750 kg·ha−1 before seeding. The urine-biochar treatment le…
Guanine-based purines affects the enteric cholinergic neurotransmission via a mechanism not involving membrane receptors
2011
Increasing evidence indicate that guanine-based purines, known as modulators of intracellular processes, can exert extracellular effects, raising the possibility of the existence of specific receptors for these compounds. We investigated if guaninebased purine receptors may be present in the rodent gastrointestinal tract modulating intestinal contractility, as the well known adenine-based purine receptors. Experiments were performed in vitro recording spontaneous and neurally-evoked contractile activity, as changes in isometric tension, in mouse distal colon circular muscle. Guanosine up to 3 mM or guanine up to 1 mM, did not affect the spontaneous mechanical activity, but they significantl…
